Planes, Trains & Automobiles

NEW -> Contingent Buyer Assistance Program
based on the main thread, (park lane condo next to train tracks and a toll road) I was wondering what everyone's thoughts were on what's worse to live by... power lines, railroad tracks, freeways, busy streets, under a flight path, or something else? and if you could rank which you would avoid most.

for me, things that make noise are the worst, so close to a fwy, train, flight path

next up are hazardous things, like chemicals or polution/exhaust (being within 1/3 mile of fwy or southbay, etc)

powerlines i personally rank very low because the studies of no effect on health are conclusive, but they fall into the 'things that may affect resale' catagory.

We lived 2 doors from the 405 in Long Beach for many years. Studebaker Rd.

You do get used to the Freeway sounds after a period of time.

But all that pollution just effects your overall health in a negative way.

The dust and smell get into everything in the house.

And nothing like listening to the multicar and Semi accidents late at night.

And as luck would have it. The year we finally moved they put up the sound walls.

Personally I would not want to get too close to that Landfill off Portola either.

All that constant garbage truck traffic with leaking liquids and smells.

Get off the 133 at Irvine Blvd. Make the left. Notice all the black substance

in the intersection ? Thats from leaking garbage trucks.

I wonder what a chemical analysis of that substance would yeild.

Next to an intersection on a busy street.

Not only do you get the regular street noise... but the acceleration by cars, trucks and motorcycles when the light turns green is even noisier.

Powerplant/transformer farm. Insidious. Most transformers are nightmares. Can and do explode and when they do, you have high power lines around, hot scalding oil that is a carcinogen (sp?). Also there is inconclusive proof that the magnetic fields may cause cancer issues.

But that is just me... i would rather live anywhere else than any of these places.

believe what you want, but the proof is conclusive that they don't.

I can put a row of fences in my back yard and power my house with the induced current fromt the magnetic fields.

Do you think the human body can stay subjected to those levels of exposure without any issues? I would guess not too much. unfortunately the only way to test would probably be against some human rights...

or you could just do what they have done. study the 100s of thousands of people who live within 100m of lines, and compare their health records to people who live farther away. no difference.

you can either believe, or look at proof. i won't tell you how to live.

As a child I lived in an area that was charmingly referred to as Santa Ana Heights. It lies directly southwest of John Wayne Airport. That means it was directly under the flight path of jets under full thrust during take-off.

Try watching TV with that kind of noise.
