Buy one that you can stand the looks. Some of them are really garish. I actually have two, and use them both.
My wife hates the one standard issue Thermos stainless grill we have because she has to look at it in the back yard.

We use it to grill burgers, but it's really big - and this isn't the big one!. You can literally cook burgers and hot dogs for thirty. I found I can't smoke meats very well with it so I bought a Brinkman All in One grill:

This one will do everything from deep fry a turkey to smoke meats, but has a ton of tradeoffs. It doesn't really have good control of the heat as a smoker (top and bottom racks are different by 20 degrees or so, meaning you have to move the meat around in the smoke every couple of hours) and it's a little small (making moving the meat around more difficult). It takes up hardly any space and my wife likes it because it hides well in the back yard. Interestingly enough, assuming it's not too small, it's a much better grill than the Thermos one because it has the capacity to make a lot of heat and focus it better. The biggest downside is it's pretty raw. I have to start it with a MAP gas torch. It was insanly cheap at $129 or so at The Home Depot.
This is the piece I want now but probablly won't buy for some time:

This one has a much larger box, is auto-lighting, and with the door makes it easier to mop/baste the Q. It will not make a burger to save your life.
