Day 1
First stop was Soowon galbi in Ktown. Hands down the best Korean BBQ ribs I ever had. Marinade was a little on the sweet side, but the texture/quality of the meat is where they shine. Thick cuts and it was the most tender short ribs ever. Parking was horrendous but dining at odd hours = no wait/front door parking. Floors are greasy so watch your step.
Side salad, nothing special
Fish cake was delicious, kimchi was rather bland
Soup and rice, nice fillers, and to complement the rich foods
1 order of the house special
Heaven
Next stop after this heavy meal is some coffee. Walked into Demitasse over in Little Tokyo. Ordered the siphon coffee.
Barista recommended trying without adding any cream or sugar.
Finished product, good without any cream or sugar...
Regular coffee
So our initial plan was Kagaya and get the Wagyu beef from Japan, but due to the heavy protein meal earlier at Soowan, we decided on Sushi Gen which just happens to be next door. Was seated rather quickly at the bar, heard waits can be long here.
Kirin brewd locally
Sweet shrimp
Fried shrimp heads, pretty good
Toro and sea urchin, best of the night
Tako and ika, My faves
Yellow Tail
Albacore, not bad
Japanese snapper, ok,too overpowering with the Yuzu salt
About $130 for two, a bit expensive for me, especially when California roll is on the menu. Lady next to me asked for a crunchy roll and was told they don't have that. She seemed shocked and proceeded to order the CA roll. A guy down the bar order bowl of rice at the sushi bar? At least no soy sauce was poured on it.
Day 2
Woke up and got good old star bucks instead of the fancy one from yesterday. Strolled into Japanese village center and wanted to try some morning pastries.
First stop was yamazaki, Jalape?o wiener bun, spicy taco steamed bun, and a croquette roll
Next was the Korean bakery (Cafe Dulce) across the way, fried sausage roll with SPICY mustard, tasty
Their signature drink, dulce latte, very good
The green tea roti was delicious, couldn't stop eating it..they have a bacon donut but we were too early, can you make one Homer?
Next and final stop before retreating behind the orange curtain is Daikokuya. There was a line when they opened, we were lucky to snag the last booth.
Not sure what it is, pickle assortment? It was delivered to our table by mistake
Side salad
Side fried rice, big chunks of Cha shu! Not bad
Under this forest of onions lies some really tasty FRIED gyozas
The fatty ramen, I think they skim extra fat off the broth onto your soup. Very rich taste, probably won't do it again. They were sold out of the "fat" in an hour after opening
The regular ramen, much cleaner taste, but in the end, still like food court Santouka better.
What's with the green onions at this place...every dish has a green layer on top...this was the chashu bowl, pork was grilled? Very tasty, even the next day
We were sick of eating for a few days after this weekend...
