So to continue our Persian/Mediterranean food tour, we tried out this place in Costa Mesa off of Bristol just south of the 405:
Orchid Restaurant
3033 Bristol St
Costa Mesa, CA 92626

Yelp only gives them 3 stars but we went because they have the IHO Holy Grail... a lunch buffet:
It's actually reasonable at $11.95 and they had the normal dishes of kobideh (ground beef and ground chicken), chicken kabob, meat stews, vegetarian stews, soups, salads, different rices and even some desserts.
The beef kobideh and chicken kabob were my favorite. The potato salad was actually very good and some of the veggie dishes like the celery spinach and barley soup were quite tasty.
It was a bit sad because there were only us and another couple there but at least we got freshly cooked food (since we got there early).
The desserts were a nice surprise, not sure how familiar people are with them but the Sholeh Zard, a saffron rice pudding, and the pomegranate jello were a refreshing end to the meal.
This was actually the 3rd Persian restaurant we've been to in as many weeks, we also ate at Bahar (3.5 Yelp stars) in Mission Viejo and Hatam (4 Yelp stars), also in Mission Viejo.
Of the 3, Hatam has the edge... but no buffet like Orchid (although the portions were huge).
BTW: Chicken barg is the flat cut chicken that ps9 likes.
