hi TI members, I was just informed that a friend of mine had an open house and broker preview for their Irvine home.  They recently noticed that the jewelry was stolen.  It was hidden so whoever took it, had time to look around and they actually took an entire drawer.  Guess Irvine isn't so safe anymore.  If they were to file a claim through insurance, do their premiums increase?

Sorry to hear, what part of Irvine?  Broker preview, so it happened on a Wednesday?  What did the agent say?

Northwood.  Could have been broker preview or open house.

Agent has been notified and police report was filed.  Does this happen before?

Did the agent recall anything?  Wouldn't he/she notice someone with an entire drawer of jewelry leaving?

Never leave valuables when there are strangers going through the house.  When I sold my place I put all my valuables in storage or at my parents house.

You can't trust anyone and it's too easy for them to snatch and grab.

ah happened to me too.  They took a not too pricey watch and a beat up old coach phone purse.

Only claim if it's worth it.. your premium goes up and follows you to the next residence.

It was a small jewelry box.  So the drawer couldnt be bigger than 6" x 8"  Could have probably fit in a bag.  But to think that they were gutsy enough to look for it in the closet, find it, figure out what they wanted, then take it and put it back.  Wow

why didn't they put the jewelry in a small safe?  this reminds me of that thread when someone complained about something being stolen from their unlocked car.

They just didn't think twice about someone going through the closet.  You really have to search for it, behind a bunch of items.

So this sort of stuff does happen a lot.  We put everything away.. but just this one time my wife left her watch (again, not that pricey) and a phone purse holder thing (really beat up) laying out.  The watch was in one of the jewlery drawers which was mostly empty other than some cheapy accessories.  The 909ers ;) came in as a couple.  One woman had missing teeth!  they separated my agent.. one downstairs and one went up.  He was kind of keen on it but obviously not fast enough.  He tried to go up to the closet immediately and notice the guy just coming out of our closet.  Then ushered him down and walked them out.. got their license plate.  I didn't hear anything back from the cops.

We took all the valuable stuff out of our home when we listed it.

Didn't do that before and never had problems but this time around we did because we actually stayed somewhere else until we were in escrow.

I think in addition to shower scene service, qwerchete might also offer bat enforcement at Open Houses.

Most agents will tell you now as well.. put things away in a safe box at a bank or something if possible.

Tip: Don't leave the following during open house: grill (joking), diamond necklace, Rolex, rings, laptop. iPad, iphone, sun glasses, designer handbags (etc)
