This post is about Oak Glen and no, I'm not talking about the neighborhood in Irvine that pops up when you Google "Oak Glen". This is the Oak Glen in Yucaipa. I took the kids up to Oak Glen apple orchards over the weekend. We pressed our own apple cider! That was pretty fun and also educational for the kids. I've been to Oak Glen many times over the years to pick apples, berries, visit the mountain village shops, etc but that was a first for me. It was a beautiful day up in the mountains. Had lunch at Angus McCurdy's on the Parrish Pioneer Ranch. We visited the old one-room schoolhouse made of stone. That's always fun to visit and see how things used to be done back in the day (and in the not so distant past for those who are from rural areas. My dad went to school in a one-room schoolhouse, 1st through 8th just like this one.) I successfully resisted buying a slice of Mile High Apple Pie. For those not familiar, they are 5 lb. pies. They sell a ton of sweets up there... kettle corn, freshly roasted cinnamon sugar almonds (my party tub is sitting next to me as I type), mini donuts made on the spot with 9 assorted toppings / flavors, fudge, and this list goes on & on. We did the museum. They have a petting zoo and pony rides for younger kids. Pumpkin patches nearby. Lots to do in fall and even in winter. It's a great place to visit if you want some awesome pictures and make some really good family memories. Unfortunately, we didn't get to see the piglet races but I would have liked to have seen that and the hatchet toss sounds exciting for boys.
