I am looking for a second home in the Newport Beach - Newport Coast -Laguna Beach areas. From reading this blog, it appears that most of the sales taking place are NODs, short sales, foreclosures and REOs. While attempting to find these distressed properties, I've noticed that most of the search engines (Redfin, Trulia, etc) don't always note the distressed listings as such, while the foreclosure based search engines often provide (unintentionally) misleading information. Which are the good Websites and search engines to monitor distressed properties in these areas? Since I am not a Southern California resident (actually, it's snowing where I live right now!), my search would, initially, have to be Web based. Thanks!

While I'm generally not a big fan or real estate salespeople, your situation would seem a good one to use their knowledge as a buyer's agent.

Sell4u is an agent covering these areas (I think) who has proven himself (herself?) on this board to be one of the good ones. I would email them and have them email you listings that meet your needs.

If you really want to DIY, or start that way, Redfin notes (usually) which listings are shorts or reos in the listings towards the bottom.
