Just noticed what appear to be new Intelistreets (street lights) on the 405 off of Sand Canyon a couple of months ago. They popped up overnight. Over the weekend, more popped up off of Sand Canyon in front of Cypress Village and inside the Woodbury neighborhood streets. They also surround some parks (see Stonegate basketball courts). They have a black top and are spaced from each other at pretty set intervals.
They don't appear to be for lights since they are installed parallel to or right next to existing lights that should already provide ample lighting at night.
Intelistreet lights are like sci fi stuff and are pretty multi functional. They can make announcements (for emergencies), they can make sure to help catch bad guys by being able to record both image and sound coming from cars driving by as well as pedestrians. The street lights have wireless capabilities and are able to transmit said information instantly.
These will help us make sure that we are protected here in the west coast from the bad guys and keep Irvine the safest city around.
