Hi folks,

Could anyone recommend someone to fix my broken window?  It is a dual panel vinyl window and the glass was broken.  Do I need to replace the whole window, or just replace the dual-pane glass?  Thanks!

The dual pane glass is a sealed assembly where the air between the dual panes is in a vacuum. The air is a slow conductor and convector thus making the dual pane window a good insulator so heat or cold does not transfer easily between inside and outside.

The plastic jambs, head and sill are fused together into one. This is where the tracks are. The adjacent stucco finish is grounded to the edge of the plastic. Do not remove it because you will not only have to break the stucco but also the waterproofing underpayments underneath. One of your leaf is a fixed and the other is operable regardless of a slider or single hung. I can bet you my life that it is not a double hung because the craps out there today are built as cheaply possible.

The movable leaf you can snap out easily. There is a plastic frame and glass insert. You must keep the frame because it is the exact measurement as the tracks. You can find a dual pane glass replacement but the typical glass shops would not be able to help you because they do not have the ability to fuse 2 pieces of glass into an air tight gas assembly.

You will have to go back to the manufacturer to get a glass replacement.
