Maybe IHS should tell the author to imagine a crane, dragon, and goldfish.  Surely that would change his impression!
I don't think the author, David Hansen, knows the significance of a crane, dragon, or koi (or even boba milk tea).

When you go to the park, it's meh...  I do like the Carousel and Balloon.  Summer Weekend Night movies at the park are pretty cool, but other parks also do that.

The kids like the playground, but it's pretty blah.  It's pretty boring.  They need a proper playground with slides and swings and stuff.

Food for thought....

Yes, we discussed the salary and benefits already.

Great Park will never be a tourist destination. The mistake of the politicians was comparing it to NYC Central Park. This set up a unrealistic expectation for critics to comparing this to the nation's best open spaces. Irvine has never been a tourist destination and its infrastructure will never support it. The money generator is not from selling popcorns and refrigerator magnets. Development permit fees and property taxes are highly lucrative for the City.

I don't expect it to be anything like that, but I'd expect it to be one of the best parks in Irvine based on the money and effort put into it.  Unfortunately, it's near the bottom of the list when I take the family out to a park.  Bill Barber park is much better.  Add the balloon and carousel there and there's much less reason to hit the Great Park up.

15 years ago development standards were different and it evolved dramatically over the last decade. Energy saving and sustainability are the guiding rules. Wood burning fireplace is outlawed. No incandescent bulbs are allowed in model homes or installed in delivery of new homes. Water saving appliances  and fixtures are a must. Landscape irrigation is totally reengineered for water wise cycles. When come to landscape on a large body of land lush green is forbidden and only the drought tolerant varieties are permitted. In other parts of the state electric charging station are a mandate inside garages. Golf courses will no longer be built. Cemetery is not viable on slope and great park will never be installed with the landscape palette found in Barber Park.
