Hi,

My wife and I will be moving to or near irvine this summer. We are going to be in irvine for 2 days next week and were hoping you might be able to help us with a few questions. We are planning on looking at some neighborhoods to potentially move into. More than likley we will be looking for 2-3 bedrooms townhouse/condo/house to either rent or buy as we don't know how long we will be in the area.

We would like to be close to UCI or UCI medical center, a relatively new/modern negighborhood that is farily close to shopping centers/malls. We are both working professionals, due plan on having children very soon. I am still in training to be a physician so our mortgage or rent will be limited.

1.) WHAT AREAS WOULD YOU RECOMMEND TO LOOK AT?

2.) ANY REC'S ON NICE RESTAURANTS IN IRVINE/OC, EITHER IN IRIVNE OR ON THE BEACH?

3.) WHAT/WHERE WOULD YOU RECOMMEND GOING TO GET A FEEL OF THE SOCIAL SCENE OF IRVINE/OC?

4.) ANY REC'S ON WHERE TO GO TO EXPERIENCE THE NIGHT LIFE OF IRVINE/OC?

Thank you

Your questions require a lot of research which is better done by someone who knows your needs and likes better than anyone else-you yourself. I doubt anybody would take a month off his or her schedule to write you a full-blown treatise about Irvine and everything related to it. Besides, it's already been done, just read all of the threads in this blog, and you will know all there is to know about Irvine, including different neighborhoods, local restaurants' reviews and so on.

I recommend you go to the <a href="http://thebeachcombercafe.com/_crystalcove/index.aspx">Beachcomber Cafe</a> at Crystal Cove Beach. It isn't the best restaurant in the county, but it is right on a wonderful beach.

Try the search button. Also check out the <a href="http://www.irvinehousingblog.com/">main blog</a>, and read the community profiles that IR has done.

Are you serious? <a href="http://www.irvinehousingblog.com/forums/viewforum/8/">You missed the section dedicated entirely to DINING</a>?

<blockquote>3.) WHAT/WHERE WOULD YOU RECOMMEND GOING TO GET A FEEL OF THE SOCIAL SCENE OF IRVINE/OC?</blockquote>

Hint: It's not in Irvine. Hint #2: See below.

<blockquote>4.) ANY REC'S ON WHERE TO GO TO EXPERIENCE THE NIGHT LIFE OF IRVINE/OC?</blockquote>

Find the poster who goes by the name <a href="http://www.irvinehousingblog.com/forums/member/541/">TenMagnet</a>, and read all his posts. Once you get past his obsession with Asian trannies, you might be able to dig up some good info. PM him for more details, and if you are lucky... he will take you out for a night on the town in his dad's convertible M6.

The work has already been done, so no need to bring it up again, and it shouldn't be expected to be brought up again when many of the answers to your questions would have been answered had you used the search function. To be frank, it frightens me that a soon to be Dr. doesn't use the search function first before asking questions about housing in Irvine on the Irvinehousingblog. That's like being a resident and asking what is the IV for again?

People training to be a doctor have time for a wife and club scene?

A) wife

B) club scene

C) nice dinners out

D) residency training

Two of the four aren't going to last.

Which two are you going to choose?

Doctors don't necessarily have to be the best! :| I suppose it could be like any other profession... just doing it half-assed. I wonder how this individual prioritizes the four items (A thru D)... but you forgot to list item E... planning/having a family - as was originally posted.

Sheesh... we just have too much time and too much of a mean streak! LOL! Talk about being the welcome wagon!

Graphix, you have been around for so long, you probably remember all the threads that came up in this forum.

The search function is useful, but not always user-friendly when 25 posts of 100+ comments show up when you type "Restaurant".

Be nice to newbie!

1) There are a lot of apartments around UCI. Check with Irvine Apartment Community (AIC) on their website or on craigslist or on realtor.com. Don't buy, rent. Get a feel for where you would really like to stay and move a couple years after you move in the OC. Prices will drop as well.

2) There's a good thread about this, personnaly I like The Basilic on Balboa Island and the Cliff or the Rooftop for drinks right on the beach. Black Sheep Bistro is a hidden gem in Tustin.

3) Go to Javier in Crystal Cove during happy hour on Friday. That's what OC is all about!

4) Can't help you here.

Roo - you'll have to forgive graphrix.

It is right in the middle of his hibernating season and he keeps getting poked around by his Santa Ana Zoo keepers.

Besides, he and cayci have been working <strong>really, really, really</strong> hard on their new dance routine and the stress is getting to him.

(I don't know if graph is on the left or right, but the routine is awesome. Great work, you two.)

Sure, half of them are below average, after all.
