What is the basic minimum cost of landscaping ,hardscping per sq feet? For Average yard size that of lantana columbus grove.

Does anyone have any idea?

Lot of it will depend on what you want to do.. just concrete? stamped concreted, saw cut pattern concrete, slate pavers, connecticut bluestone, brick pavers? There's so many different materials that will determine your final cost. A LOT of landscapers I talked to have really crappy ideas, oh we could do this or that, $5000 for this, $6000 for that or $4000 if we do this. If you don't really care and are looking for lower maintenance and low cost, then a lot of colored concrete, saw cut to give it a pattern is cheap. Once you go tile, retaining walls with stone veneers, built-in barbecues structures, patio covers, then the costs add up quickly.

I would say at a minimum concrete, plants, some gravel, sod, and irrigation system, would be $10K. I'm sure there are a lot of landscapers who are hurting now, so negotiations can be had. In 2005, you could hardly get a landscaper to come onsite to give you an estimate and even when they did, they were pulling numbers out of their a$$.

In my opinion, I'd get a landscape designer help you with design, layout, materials, plants, and so on. Know what you want out the space (entertainment, privacy, kids playing, pet friendly, a garden, shade coverage, etc) a designer will actually spend time with you and go over a number of options. Many of the landscapers I talked to, didn't want to do much planning up front. It was essentially, "what do you want me do and what do you have in mind" They start piece-mealing the quotes, $2000 for concrete, $1500 for sod, $2500 for irrigation, etc. At the end you end up not REALLY knowing what you're getting. Oh you wanted plants? That's and extra $1500, oh a pergola (patio cover) that'll be another $6000, oh barbecue, that'll be $6000, oh you wanted lighting $1500. Oh we didn't run the gas line so we'll have to tear up part of the hardscape we already put down.

irvinewestpark...

it all depends...here is my breakdown for you for mins in a 5000 sq ft lot:

irrigation - $3000

drain - $3000

hardscape all depends on what you want to put in...a bbq island usually will cost you $8000 not including equipment...open patio cover 18 x 18 will cost you about $8000...color concrete is about $10 to $11 / sq ft...flagstoen about $25 to $35...paver about $11 to $15 depend on what kind of paver...

thanks for the info.

Just wanted to get the basic hardscaping for 3/4 area. For the rest want to put a play structure with some sand and some trees around as a screen ,no bbq island etc.

People have told me to save basic minimum 40-50 K for landscaping . Want to make a list of all possible additional expenses in case I go for home .Hope landscaping rates will also come down too

Good landscape contractors are still busy. Tell me what you have in mind in terms of hardscape features, I can tell you how much it will cost you (+/- 20% accurate). I am not in the business, but I have been throughin souther county for my own homes and my friends' home to know the itemized market rates.

Make sure your landscaper properly grades any hardscaping. You never want water to flow to your foundation instead the water should flow away from your house.

binuiu, funny you said that...One would think that is landscape 101. I have heard about very bad contractors do bad work in Irvine. Make sure you check their references, and talk to the home owners who used them before. Also, make sure you make progress payments - meaning you only pay them after certain work has been completely. And deposit is $1000 when you sign the contract - it is state law...If they try to ask for more than $1000 for deposit, then you know they are not a honest contractor.
