Landscape Designs for SMALL yard

I have a very small, postage-stamp backyard in CV that I need to get done.  I have my own guys to do the work, but they're not familiar with getting plans drawn and submitting to the HOA.

Is it possible to draw the plans myself?  All I want to do is put travertine or pavers throughout and leave the 24" space against the walls for plants.  How detailed is the HOA looking for them to be?  Or should I hire a landscaper to design the plans (with a small deposit) and then back out when it comes time to doing the work?

I'm broke now that i bought the house.  I don't need to spend a tiny fortune on my itty-bitty yard.

My landscaper drew it by hand on graph paper. You don't need anything fancy. You just have to make sure everything is labelled (plants, materials, setbacks, drainage inlets/lines).

You might want to get a quote from gopavers. I know too many people who tried to diy their pavers and will never try it again. Gopavers has a minimum of $5k which is around the cost of paving a 500sqft yard. But I guess how small is small?
