To continue my Persian food tour... I tried out this place in the center across from UCI since we've been going there quite a bit lately:

Kochee Kabob House
4143 Campus Dr
Irvine, CA 92612
(949) 854-0206

Mixed reviews on Yelp but it was fine for me. They were a bit stingy on the sauces and as far as I can tell, they didn't have the flat cut chicken that ps9 loves at Luna Grill.

So many food choices at this center... and you have to try the waffles at SnoFlakez.

Out of our way, unless we move to Turtle Ridge or Concordia.  Enjoying my flat cut chicken from Luna right now.. so juicy

I gotta give it a try.

If you like Persian food, try Bahar Restaurant in Mission Viejo:

Go there when you have some time to spare so you don't have to stress the wait.  You get a table fairly easily, however the 2-3 waiters have to do the work of 10 people.  Food is great, service isn't consistent from time to time, but they're very friendly.

If you like red meat, try Beef Soltani.  8)

@rnirvine:

We've eaten at Bahar a few times (I think I posted about it once).

In Mission Viejo, we actually prefer Hatam.

Hatam is good too, but I personally prefer the food at Bahar.  Have you eaten at Darya?  How about Caspian?

Ate at Caspian ages ago (they have the belly dancer right?).

We at at Orchid instead of Darya... is Darya good?

Yup, Caspian has the belly dancers.

IMO Orchid is a 2 in scale of 1 to 5(the best) and Darya is a 4.5

Well... the sole reason we went to Orchid was because it was a buffet and we wanted to try a variety of dishes (I posted about it here:http://www.talkirvine.com/index.php/topic,12108.0.html).

We'll try Darya one of these days.

How do you rate Luna Grill? ps9 lives there.

Luna Grill is very consistent, however they offer Mediterranean, Arabic, Turkish, and Persian food all in the same menu.  The food is whitewashed, yet I find their food fresh and delicious.  I rate it at a 4 out of 5, but not authentic enough to compare it to Hatam, Bahar, Caspian and Darya.

Luna Grill should be compared to Panini Cafe.  ;)

Sorry, this is bound to get technical when you get a Persian to rate you Persian Restaurants...

I think Kochee is owned by an Afghani guy.  Last time I was there, they had more spices (like cumin).  Food is ok.  I don't like their rice.  But then again, I think most of the Persian restaurants don't make the chelo rice as good as homemade.

In Irvine, I like House of Kebab.  I don't like Caspian either.
