My family is moving to Irvine from Texas. We flew out 3 weeks ago to look at houses and almost put an offer on one in Northpark. Then I found your blog. I've convinced my hubby to rent for the summer, and we're going to play the waiting game and see what shakes down. At the very least, this forum has been eye opening. At the most- you have saved me a ton of cash.

Anything can beat a summer in Houston. The treeroaches are now out in full force, throwing me a goodbye party. I can't wait to eat some Taco Mesa and be rid of the bugs and humidity.

lollyblgger,

Welcome. I spent 2 1/2 years in College Station, and I can assure you the climate here is much nicer :)

I am glad to hear you decided to wait. You probably just saved yourself your downpayment.

Lolly!

Welcome! I did spend some time down near Clear Lake Shores for NASA, it was ok, but the bosses were completely morons. Thanksfully i'm here now, and thankfully the bosses are just as consistent as there. OH well....

Again welcome to another Texan!

Lolly, Welcome to Irvine!

I lived in Austin and Houston for many years. Before I moved here, I didn't know there is a place with such nice weather year around! Most importantly, I think your family picked an excellent city to live in!

Lolly, I spent a number of years in Texas (Houston, College Station, Dallas, Corpus Christi) but I found my home here in Southern California.

I still have a little bit of a Southern twang, especially when I go back to Texas to visit. I do miss Texas BBQ and Blue Bell ice cream though. I was in Houston a couple months ago and looked at homes in the Northwest including the Woodlands. OMG, an all-decked-out 3,000 square foot home on a neighborhood lake can be had for less than $300k.

Save your money and wait at least another year. Welcome to sunny Southern California.

Hi lolly. Welcome. My spouse and I are in a similar situation. We own in Clear Lake and one of us commutes to Huntington Beach every week. With the weekly flights and the rental and extra car we keep in Anaheim, I don?t know if we are saving much over out-n-out renting in CA. But like you we are waiting to see how home prices and the economy in CA adjust in the next couple of years. Surely this site helped us decide to stay out of the OC market for the time being and that saved us hundreds of thousand$$$ of capital loses.

Thanks guys. I wish I could smuggle some Bluebell ice cream and Good and Co. barbecue in my suitcase for y'all, but you'll have to settle for a hearty "Howdy!". And for those of you that don't know what tree roaches are, consider yourself lucky. They are nasty. I'm really looking forward to picking up my foreclosed home for pennies on the dollar!

I read that Houston had an invasion of crazy ants that don't march sedately in line like the small Argentine ants we have in CA, have you seen those and if so please make sure they don't follow along too...:)
