Juliette Kitchen, Bar and Wine Merchant - Newport Beach

NEW -> Contingent Buyer Assistance Program
Tried this place twice already, I'm actually impressed.  Not a fan of fancy food or "tapas".  But the taste here is impressive.  Highly highly recommend the mussels.  Comes in a cast iron pan, two toast points, perfectly cooked mussels swimming in a chorizo broth, onions. etc.  The broth is masterful.  I wanted to lift up the heavy cast iron pan and just down the whole thing.  Ask for more toast points right from the get go.  Sopping up the soup is heavenly.  I'm not a fan of heavy paprika flavors, but this one turned my head.  Order two, it's that good and you don't want to share.

Wine pricing is the other impressive item here, just because the markup is not the typical industry standard of 3x retail.  We got a $20 wine here for $32.  A '12 Napa Cab by Hindsight, a nice sipping red to pair with the food.

We also got the scallops, dry aged ny strip steak, and pork cheeks.  Of those three, the pork cheeks were the best, though the addition of peanuts tasted  a little weird.

No kids menu, and not the most kid friendly place, they have booths along the wall and quite a bit of counter height tables near the bar.  The food is also heavily seasoned, so most kid's palate will find it hard to eat.  I only see the french fries for my kid, and she had a little bit of the steak sans the chimichurri sauce.

For next time, two orders of mussels, extra bread, and a bottle of chard is our meal.
