John Laing Hoes, ha I love it.

Not based off of any statistics, but I'm predicting atleast 1 of these 3 implode this year: Laing, Hovnanian, or Standard Pacific.

In addition to the [Thanks!] button we need a [LOL] button or something like that.

Emaar is in Dubai, UAE.

I conducted over $40,000 of service for John Laing Homes (Not Laing Luxury) and the company never paid my bill. My experience with John Laing Homes left me a message that this company is not trustworthy. With whats going on with Emaar I would suggest home buyers should wait and hold on to their deposit for now. Both companies have laid off key management so far and more bad news may loom ahead. The homes would still be there so no hurry to put money into JLH piggy bank with a huge "hoe"!

[quote author="Astute Observer" date=1234324195]What are some of the possible recourses for you? It is like the second or third time that you mentioned the hoe company not paying your bill. Can't you file a complaint in small claim court or BBB?

If JLH pays BK now and JLH goes bankrupt in the next 90 days, BK will likely be sued by the bankrutpcy estate for return of the payment. $40k is too much for small claims court ($7,500 damage limit in small claims court). For a $40k debt, I would ask the local Tong for help.

This is the 2nd time and I posted for the non dedicated readers and regulars readers who does not have an elephant memory. I can't say JLH is not trustworthy without proof or fact. Not paying a significant invoice amount is a valid indicator of the company's integrity. As a consumer I would not trust JLH. I would buy from other builders instead.

More evidence surfaced this week that all is not well with Newport Beach-based homebuilder John Laing Homes, which apparently has been all-but mothballed by its Dubai-based owner.

Laing reported that it laid off 72 employees in Orange County on Jan. 15, according to a state Employment Development Department notice published Monday.

Positions eliminated range from 14 home counselors to 11 site managers, 11 customer care representatives, three marketing managers, an escrow manager and one welcome center hostess. Two VP?s ? a senior vice president and the vice president for urban development ? also got the ax, the notice said.

Rumors have been circulating that the company ? sold for $1 billion to Emaar Properties of the United Arab Emirates in June 2006 ? has halted work on projects from here to Colorado.

Company officials have been relatively mum ? apart from issuing a couple of vague statements. Today, in response to a Register query, they reissued a Feb. 5 statement that had Laing noting ?

Unspecified layoffs. The company first confirmed in January that it had undergone layoffs, but never specified how many or which positions were eliminated.

That it ?is currently reviewing all potential options to meet its capital requirements.?

That its ?operations have not ceased?

And that the firm ?assures new homebuyers who are currently in the purchasing process that deposits are secure.?

Laing employees aren?t the only ones losing work. Two public relations firms formerly employed by Laing ? Porter Novelli and Roddan Paolucci Roddan ? have said they no longer are working for the company.

Whenever I hear anything about this company, I can't help but think of the poster Laing_Lies and I really can't remember one thing he wrote.

Laing_Lies I think is a woman.

They had a project in the world called Blue Canvas in Huntington Beach that I've been watching, but now it does not show up on the map.
