Recently, a number of new Ramen restaurants have opened in Costa Mesa along Baker St.  We went to JINYA last night:

JINYA
1450 Baker St Ste C
Costa Mesa, CA 92626

Jinya is an international ramen chain from Japan.  They replaced the Thai restaurant that used to be in the same spot.  This type of ramen house is closer to Kyoto flavor (opinion, not fact) and the tonkotsu soup base is more oily.  The ramen shop gives the impression that they want to sell alcohol but their food is not salty enough to be bar food.  ^_^;;  Ramen is fatty and oily, and the chicken karage is freshly cooked to order so don't burn your tongue biting into it.  Price wise, it's probably the most expensive ramen shop along Baker St, comparable to Mizuki's pricing in Irvine.

On the way home, I noticed another Japanese restaurant on Baker St (East direction) in an old shopping plaza had changed owners, and is now a noodle house.  Upon inquiring, they indicated that they sell hand made udon.  I'll have to visit them next week.

Also, Ramen Iroha replaced Daikokuya in Marukai at corner of Harbor & Baker St:http://www.yelp.com/biz/ramen-iroha-costa-mesa-3

Their Yuzu (grape fruit) chicken broth ramen is refreshing.  Don't get the home made tofu, totally disappointing.  Free DIY cotton candy at the end of the meal.

Unfortunately the Yuzu chicken broth ramen is off the seasonal menu this month.  :(

If you order the lunch bento here, the serving size is very un-Japanese, more Hawaiian BBQ-like.  Large pile of fried chicken.
