Since language immersion looks unlikely to happen in early IUSD education, what about having it afterschool?  Anyone seen immersion classes at CDC/Rainbow Rising?  I know these are non-profits and the logistics/budget of usual play/babysitting versus actual class/learning will be hard to achieve.  Especially with kids arriving at different times throughout the day.

We're currently debating whether to continue at Karis for our daughter for afterschool or go back to our previous year routine of CDC.  Karis looks unlikely now as transportation will be the main issue.  But surprisingly the tuition for Karis and CDC are about the same.  So for the same price we can get babysitting and language immersion.  And my daughter likes Karis more.  And we do as well (rather have her spewing Chinese when she gets home versus spewing CDC sand from her shoe)

I don't recall any language immersion classes in any CDC or Rainbow program. I don't think they have the personnel to support that.

Seems like Karis is the better choice for you other than you have to pick up and drive.

^ can you guys please post links/more information on CDC and Rainbow programs for Irvine schools? I live in Northwood and am looking into after school programs for my 4.5 year old daughter. What exactly are they and how do they work? What are the pros/cons in your opinion? Does IUSD have any transitional kinder or preschool classes?

I am so glad to read these details about afterschool care center. My elder daughter goes to the Phoenix preschool. I have to work overtime in my office so I am looking for a good afterschool care center to enroll her.

My son is in TK and it's been wonderful.

Rainbow is also wonderful.  As a mom that works full-time, Rainbow helps older children with their homework... it really lets me maximize my time at home with the kids. Rainbow teachers are the best.  They are always playing with the kids and are super hands on.. they aren't just "watching" the kids.  They actually play sports, board games, color and etc with the kids.

I have not seen CDC or Rainbow Rising offer language classes.  They do have activities such as sports and art classes.

I think while CDC and RR have generalized structures/curriculum, the care is dependent on each center and the people running them.  It is far more important for you to get to know the staff and center director and figure out if they are competent and creative.

anyone have any input on the iCAP after school program held at the Heritage Park and Northwood Community Centers? Pros/cons of this program vs Rainbow Reading?
