Irvine teachers could get 3.7 percent raise

NEW -> Contingent Buyer Assistance Program
Good for the teachers.

I thought the school district needed money. Are we suppose to forget about the bond?

That's how they are able to give a raise. Otherwise facility improvements would have to be paid for with funds diverted from instruction and educational programs.

I disagree with the massive bond, but these teachers in IUSD definitely deserve the raise. It's a shame our teachers cannot live in the area they teach. Living in the area allows them to better understand the students and also leads to shorter commutes and the potential for more time spent helping students at school.

The Irvine Teachers union wins. They sold the public on new MR/bond for infrastructure improvements but in reality it pays for teacher salary increases.

I'll benefit from the facility improvements so count me in as a winner too.

Since you brought it up. If all is good, then they should stop asking for classroom donations.

Lol ... when I was living in the South Bay even well funded schools were doing fundraisers and asking for donations. Those will never stop.

That bond was always for the teachers.  I highly doubt we will see any renovations in the next few years...was just at Brywood elementary and everything looks decent already. The whole "classroom missing doors" was just a way to get more voter approval I think.  But I'm all for it.  With the way Irvine prices are going, I highly doubt any teacher makes enough to afford an Irvine home.  And the schools are what make the prices stay high so we should pay them.

I have classmates who are teachers and their dream is to be a IUSD teacher and many of them are forced to work in LA first in hopes of a IUSD teacher retiring.  I would hope they get paid at least $60k..but somewhere in the $70-75k makes more sense...maybe a bit more for those teachers involved in the GATE/accelerated classes

Maybe the schools should fundraise like the Irvine principal. (Just a thought)
