It will be the training ground for future Olympians for swimming and water sports. When Mission Viejo had their Olympian ambition and created Janet Evan and Greg Louganis MV was put on the map globally. Every one around the world knew Mission Viejo. To this day nationally and globally only a few have heard of Irvine. At NYC people say I know where "Irving" is. The grand plan is to differentiate the GreatPark brand from the rest of Irvine Stuccoville.
if great park can actually realize even the 600 acre vision, it will be amazing. I actually wouldn't mind elimination of the golf course, because i can't see it really bringing a lot more value. These types of venues/facilities, or even greenspace/urban forests will likely provide more value.
The only way to brand GreatPark Irvine is having a national concert venue exposure and building world class venues for future Olympians and national team sports. If Los Angeles is to be chosen for the 2024 Olympic then one or more sport venues could possibly be accommodated at the Great Park. It is no doubt that the GreatPark is on the right track by incorporating cutting edge master planning and inplemeting futuristic vision. Master planning is much more sophisticated than a few pocket parks, rows of trees and a strip mall bearing the name of the neighborhood.
