24 firefighters respond for 1 balcony fire?  That's a lot of salaries to be paying to have that many on call.

Irvine family displaced after apartment fire

July 14, 2016 Updated 9:46 p.m.

IRVINE ? A fire on a balcony displaced an Irvine family Thursday evening, officials said.

Firefighters responded at 7:15 p.m. to the 1100 block of Quail Ridge, where a fire was burning on a balcony, said Orange County Fire Authority Capt. Larry Kurtz.

It took 24 firefighters 20 minutes to get the fire under control, he said. The fire damaged a second story apartment and displaced a family of four.

No one was injured and the cause remains under investigation, Kurtz said.

If that's by Quail Hill, it's better to put the fire out ASAP.

Due to the close proximity of homes it's not possible to do controlled burns on the hillside by 405.  Lots of fuel build up.
