So it's been rumored that this year's iPhone will again be another S update, thus the iPhone 5S.

But there is also a cheaper iPhone being rumored too, a plastic one and BGR reports it as being called the iPhone 5C. The C stands for Color as these phones are supposed to come in different hues like the iPod Touch:

The link update has said that the packaging pics are fake... but it is interesting.

Latest Apple iPhone rumors:

Announcement will be on September 10th:

Possible two models-- 5s and 5c (budget plastic model)

5s will have the same body design with the usual S upgrades: faster processor, better camera. New hardware element may be a rumored fingerprint reader on the home button. I'm hoping Apple ties this fingerprint reader to a payments processing system--finger swipe for your latte or new app. ?128GB model to differentiate itself from the 5c mode, ?WiFi 802.11ac. Software updates: iOS7, improved Siri, iRadio.

If the 5C has internals similar to the 5 and the big change is the external shell, I might opt for that depending on the price points. 16GB is usually the cheapest model for $199 and that's way too little memory for even casual users.

If the 5C is 32GB for $199 or 16GB for $99... that might be a better way too go for value.

I can upgrade every 2 years for $199 and sell my wife's old iPhone on gazelle.com (or other sites) for more than $199. No reason not to upgrade.

I think 32GB is the right size for the phone due to the bloated software that developers create.  Its mostly apps that eat up space on the phone, not content.

Unfortunately on the ipad, this also means that 64GB is the more ideal size, but that gets close to the same pricing as a macbook air.  I'm waiting to see if this will be refreshed with wireless ac as well.
Yup... I hate that they don't have expandable memory like Android devices (although many are dropping SD card slots because Google is trying to push Cloud usage).

I want to get the iPad Mini for the kids but 16GB for a tablet with how many games they download every week... not going to last. Can't bring myself to paying for 32GB+ because for that price I can get two quality brand name 7" Android tablets that have SD card slots.

It's just that they find iOS so much easier to use (although my Galaxy devices have been getting some usage from them).

The wife has been itching to get the Galaxy S4 because of the bigger screen (and tempting advertising) but she's been in the Apple ecosystem for 4 years so I told her she should just stick with it. Plus we like that we can trade/re-sell the older Apple devices and almost get new ones for nothing because of the carrier subsidies. My wifes old iPhone 3GS (now an iPod for one of the kids) is worth more after 5 years than the Android phone (non Samsung) I got two years ago.

EDIT: Paperboy said the same thing.

I have the 16gb iPad that my 3 year old uses a lot. I actually quite a few movies / shows stored on it in addition to four dozen or so games and still have free space left. If I need space for an app I delete a space hogging app I don't use or delete a movie he doesn't watch. I do agree that it would be nicer if they had an sd card slot, but they do let you re-download the apps and movies easily and for free so if you delete something you need later and are on Wi-Fi it's no big deal.

Sept 10 is iPhone Day!

So, according to rumors:

1. iPhone 5S will be available in 4 colors, the usual black and white with the added slate grey and gold.

2. iPhone 5C will come in white, blue, green, pink and yellow.

If the 5C has the same internals/specs as (or close to) the 5S, I think I will opt for it because I like the durability/weight of plastic and price point compared to memory.

Apple should really consider making their $199 starting model a 32GB instead of a 16GB. 16 geebees nowadays is too small, esp without expandable memory.

I love Apple but there isn't much to be excited about the 5s. Same form factor, better camera, better chip, more memory, ?finger print scanner, iOS7 (free for my i5). I really hope I'm wrong and Tim Cook pulls a Steve Jobs--something else? I'm still a sucker and will probably sell my old phone and upgrade. But unless you are a fanatic like me, most people are better off waiting for the iphone 6 and the bigger screen.

Apple better innovate faster. Sammy just came announced their version of an iWatch--Samsung Galaxy Gear:http://www.engadget.com/2013/09/04/galaxy-gear-hands-on/. I'm sure Sammy is already working on a iTV and will probably get it to the market faster.

What other phone trade-in is close to the activation cost of a new phone 2 years later?

I think the Galaxy line comes close but I don't think you can get $170-$230 for a Galaxy S2.
