Maybe awgee/cdrez has been talking to IrvineRenter about investment strategies:

I'm not sure if anyone thought we would see non-real estate related content on the IHB.

That other thread was asking if anyone still reads IHB.

This one is just pointing out a weird thing I saw on the IHB because I still read it.

And yes... it reminds me of the OCRegister (dead tree edition) because there is always a full page ad of Robin Leach talking about living the good life if you sell your gold (what normal person has enough gold to sell to change their life?).

My sarcasm conversion levels are a bit low which is why that re-direct landed with a thud.  I still check in every so often, but like you surprised to read about gold seminars... really...?

My .02c

Actually... I was surprised.

IR contends that he's not receiving any spiffs for doing so... but I find that more surprising.

If he starts running Viagra seminars... I'll stop reading the IHB. :D

He should stick to what he knows best.  I'll go elsewhere if I want investment advice concerning precious metals.

What makes you think the guy he is bringing in to talk is really bad than other folks.
If you don't wish to read that announcement on his site you don't have to.
you can still read the realestate related post.

I just find it funny how people are always ready to jump on him.
Lets give him credit for how he has been able to adapt and move to a different
career (probably doing it well??) in this bad economy.

@waiting:

It's all in good fun. Considering that the IHB is sort of the parent of TalkIrvine... and we got kicked out of his house, we need to keep him in check once in a while.

I realize you have some stake in IR's success... but if you look at it from an objective point of view... advertising a "Gold Investment" seminar on a Real Estate blog is a bit out of place. Next thing you know, you're gonna become an Amway rep (no offense to anyone involved in Amway). ;P

Regardless... he gets free advertising whenever I post an IHB thread here (part of why I do it... he deserves the visits)... so no such thing as bad press.

I didn't mean to hurt anyone either. I just found it funny thats all.
As for my connection with IR it is just as a reader of his blog. I've met him 2
times in IHB meet at the DISTRICT.  So i have nothing at stake.

Sorry... got you mixed up with one of IR's investors... my bad.

It looks like the "Buy Gold" seminars are no longer on the IHB.

Gold down about 10% from their post...so much for the Buy Gold seminars.  Like I said, stick to what you know best.  ;)

Peter Schiff is going to get tarred and feathered another 5% down.
Him and a lot of the other gold bugs focus on the loose FED policy and how they are printing.  Yeah I get that, but that printing of money gets offset by when money vanishes via defaults.  That being said, I have no interest in gold nor will I ever trade it one way or another.

I've always maintained a 10 percent portfolio share in metals. I think it adds stability in times like this, but I generally loath guys like Schiff because he only spreads the news after the biggest potential gains have already passed. He's a fortune teller in reverse basically.

Maybe if gold gets below $1000 then I might buy some gold coins and throw them into safety deposit box.  Not touching it at these prices.

Definitely. Gold isn't a short term hold at all (no metal is). It's a portfolio stabilizer during times of inflationary pressure.
