Well, I got the dreaded....You're lease expires in 3 months letter. Renew now and we won't raise your rent.

Now they want to offer a $500 shopping spree entry for each community.

The question is, should I wait to renew and it could be lower? Wonder how much room I have to negotiate?

There was quite a long, fairly recent thread about this <a href="http://www.irvinehousingblog.com/forums/viewthread/3481/">here</a>.

Just ignore the chance to win a $500 Gift Cert, they always have some kind of "Incentive" this time of year, last year it was a months free rent, who knows whether anyone wins or not?

Tell them to shove that entry up their arse and tell them you want a lower rental rate or you are moving.

That is a great point! Has anyone here actually won that prize, or know any credible source that has? I don't, and I have known quite a few IAC renters, including myself.

The winner was Claude Raines. aka. the Invisible Man

IAC used to send out surveys about every six months or so.

I can't remember the details, but it was something like the first 100 people to respond will get a $20 Starbucks card.

Well, I always responded, and I always received the gift card in the mail within a few weeks.

Now, this isn't $500 gift card - but they did come through on the Starbucks cards.
