See this menu. It's what comes up when you click on "Boba drinks".

Do restaurants automatically include the boba or do you have to request it? Are you actually supposed to eat the boba balls? How do you eat it - with the straw as wide as a nostril? Do you eat the boba first, during, last? What color are they  supposed to be - black or white? I've seen both. Do they taste different?  Is it true the black is "blech"?Is it redundant if I order a "Boba [fill in the flavor] milk tea"? I don't really feel comfortable ordering since I don't know what I'm asking for. Last but not least - why does it say "Vietnamese Milk Coffee" at the top... is that even a boba drink? I didn't think so. They put boba in iced coffee?

If you couldn't tell, this boba thing is really confusing to me.

If its a boba drink, it comes included.  And yes it is edible.  Get the super wide straws and puncture the seal of the drink.  You're suppose to suck it up thru the straw along with the paired drink.  Be ready, those balls come up fast.  Black are the ones in drinks, white ones are in dessert/soups.  Black bobas are sweeter, almost a caramel taste if the drink does not overpower it.  The white/clear ones are tasteless and even if they have taste, the soup/dessert will overpower it.  If you want boba in your drink, add the word boba to the drink, or else you won't get it.  Boba goes in any cold drink, vietnamese milk coffee would be a fine pairing.  Avoid shaved ice, snow ice boba, it gets too hard and not pleasant to chew.

And yes go ahead qwerty/IHO, plenty of ammo up top.

OHHH do you mean the boba can go in ANY of those drinks in the pic, not just the milk tea? People put it in the juice, icy (whatever that is) and smoothies? I didn't know.

This sounds scary. Ok. I'll hang on to my seat. I remember IrvineCommuter warned me not to swallow because I guess you can choke. This is definitely not for kids!
