How much can they make, now?

NEW -> Contingent Buyer Assistance Program
So in the heyday all I would hear about were my realtor friends and how they sold seven 600K houses in a month and were getting 60K comp checks monthly. Well times have changed.

How much is an average Orange County realtor making nowadays? Let's say she's working for a realty company, so that 6% gets down to 3%, and selling homes in Orange County only.

Homes are now in the 300Ks and 400Ks, you have to deal with REOs, short sells, Redfin and stringent credit rules so you can't simply pick a relatively poor family in Fountain Valley and give them zero down and 750K for a Newport Coast condo.

I'd like to see what you professionals think they are making now. Six figures? Hmmmmm.....

That is like asking how much a "businessman" makes. In my experience, there is no such thing as an "average" real estate agent. Some work full time, some part time, some have been doing it for many years, others only for only a short time, some sell high end properties and others work in much lower priced areas. Since this is a profession based on percentage of sales, it makes sense that they are making less now. I personally know two agents who are still making over 1 million a year, I know one who is barely surviving and many others in his agency have gone back to their previous line of work. I just don't think this question can be answered. I think in many cases the well established neighborhood agents are doing very well but the others have disappeared or are suffering greatly.

Fair enough. I suppose it is like asking how long a piece of string is. Thanks for the reply.
