Stories like this put things in perspective, don't they ? Hug your family, tell them you love them every day....and please keep Officer Simmons' family and his LAPD family in your thoughts today.

Trooper

Watched the news coverage this morning. I hope the second officer recovers fully but it sounds like a long process.

Always sad to see those things. Sounds like suicide by cop at the end. At least we don't have to spend taxpayers money and hear about the perps poor upbringing.

Best to you and be safe!!

I heard the news this am on the way to work. It is always very very sad to hear this kind of news. At 51 years old, he is the first one went inside! He is a hero!

Only in the spirit of making sure our swat heros are safe, I was wondering why they see the need to go in? so urgently?? The guy already told 911 operator that he already killed three family members. So there is no hostage situation here. The gunman is a piece of shit, the people associated with him probably not any better. Why not let the standoff last, and take him out without risk SWAT"s life?

Stay Safe, Trooper!

Officer Simmons appears and is interviewed at 3:54. YouTube - LAPD(SWAT) South LA *Ofc. Randal Simmons killed 2-7-08

Troop...I received any email last night for a benefit bike ride for these Officers starting at Alysian Park...wherever that is...apparently they have a Cycling Team...

Anyway...if I'm not working I will deffinately go and support them.

I will post the link later.

My thoughts are with their Families.

Elysian Park is what we affectionately call our Academy. I have no idea why, but I should. Address is 1880 N. Academy Drive, Los Angeles. We are directly across the street from Dodger Stadium.
