First time home buyer here so I need to buy some home insurance. I am honestly confused about how much is needed. Also, what should I watch out for? Any particular insurance company is best in terms of value/performance? Also, of course, we can also add auto insurance to get a multiline discount..

Auto club is great...thought not the cheapest for me..I quoted around, Geico offered me the lowest rate for the same coverage, but their auto policy is more expensive for me as I have couple tickets. So I will advise you to quote your home and auto together from Geico, then quote the same combination from auto club. Take the lowest cost one.

You might try the Search function. I believe that this has been covered before.

I use allstate for everything... certainly not cheap, but service and peformance have been excellent. I got insurance to cover everything inside the house as well as insurance that might happen on the premises. The only thing that I really could not get is earthquake insurance (but i have secondary insurance for that...). Again, not exactly cost effective but its not eactly that expensive.

Etheran,

When you do your research don't just focus on coverage and premiums. Make sure you get a go handle on how the company pays up after a claim. I saw huge differences in how companies acted after hurricanes in Florida and the Gulf Coast. There are a couple of nation-wide companies that I will never use because they did everything they could not to pay claims. Bad, bad situations ...

If you have any Service connections, check out USAA. They're the best insurance company across the board that I've seen.
