Hey TI peoples...

I'm reviewing all my options for my new home in Yorba Linda and wanted to get some feedback on some insulation upgrades. Currently, I get r-30 ceiling insulation, which is pretty good. For about $800, I can upgrade the ceiling insulation to r-38. I figure during the heat of the summer (can get well into the upper 90's even low 100's in YL), I can recoup that cost in about 5 years or less. Is it worth the upgrade?

They also offer Exterior Wall Insulation upgrade from r-13 to r-15, which doesn't seem like much and it's about $1k to upgrade.

Which, if any, upgrade(s) will give me the best ROI? Any insight is appreciated!!

I believe the R-38 is worth the upgrade, especially in YL. It's supposed to keep the temperature of the home cooler by atleast 5 degrees during those hot summer days. Another great investment would be an attic fan to draw the hot air from the upstairs out.

Good luck and congratulations on the new home :)
