So I read some articles on recommended shoes for supinator's (Under-pronation). Went to Hoka store at South Coast Plaza and ASICS stores at Citadel outlets.
The ASICS shoes (Nimbus, Kayano, etc.) were really tight, was told that they have wide but it wasn't in stock. I could barely squeeze my foot in one model but not the other.
The Hoka Bondi... tried both 9.5 and 10, and the wide version. Could not squeeze my foot in. It was as if the shoes were made extra slim. When they finally find larger sizes that I could squeeze my foot in, as soon as I stood up and took a few steps, it felt as if my foot was going to rollover to the side.
In comparison, Ecco size 43 (US 10) usually fits fine (can replace insole with powerstep and still fits), Mephisto (*) in US 9.5 & Sketchers size 10 are snug, Finn Comfort 9.5 actually had some wiggle room, since they were made to accommodate extra thick cork insoles. The cork insoles sound hard but feels great under the foot. Nice and sturdy unlike the fancy tall gel or tall foam shoes.
I feel as if the manufactures all use different foot models and for some, instead of making wider sizes, they expect you to just buy a bigger shoe. Sketchers shoes can be comfortable and can be cleaned in the washer, but the outsoles are made to last months and not years. If you buy the anti-slip/traction pads/guards and shoe goo them to the bottom, they might last longer.
Ecco, love the Helsinki dress shoes, except I had 2 pairs with black polyurethane soles crack and crumble into pieces from hydrolysis. It's as if they made their dress shoes with planned obsolescence & biodegradable. If you like Ecco Helsinki shoes the Ecco outlet at Citadel outlets LA has size 10 Helsinki brown for 50% off in the back corner.
(*) Mephisto shoe size can be inconsistent from model to model. I'd test the fit at Bodell's in Long Beach in person and not mail order.
