Heritage Fields (The Great Park)

NEW -> Contingent Buyer Assistance Program
Just a few days ago the ratty "land for sale" sign that had been up for ages at the corner of Barranca and Alton was replaced with an Irvine-worthy, (pretty, ornate, etc.) sign announcing Heritage Fields - residential, retail - was coming...I wonder exactly what the plan is...the Heritage Fields web site doesn't have any info on the housing, schools, parks, retail plans.

Anyone have any recent news? Has Lennar mothballed the whole thing for now? Apparently they can't even get started on the runway demolition.

Rumor is, TIC may buy their position. This is just one, only one, of many large, billion dollar jv land holdings lennar paid top dollar for. I think lennar is in for some serious trouble in their unconsolidated debt column. I was at a meeting where lennar stated they would have homes built and for sale by late spring 2008, i'm cautiously optimistic that they'll hit that timeline as i understand used fema trailers are being dropped on the vacant lots.

Has anyone else noticed the structures that were being built on the old El Toro base where Heritage Fields is supposed to be ? They're in the middle next to some of the old military buildings. They look like townhomes. Does anyone know what they are ?

There was an article in the Register or OCBJ within the last year or so about Lennar building test models of homes/condos/townhomes or portions thereof for consumer evaluation (probably focus-group based). It sounded like it was to get feedback on new floorplans or features for future builds.

They were temporary, but I don't remember how long they were supposed to stick around.
