I thought I'd reach out to folks on this board for some advice..

I work in Burbank 3x/week (work from home the other 2x/week) and my husband commutes daily to San Bernardino. We currently live in South OC. We are contemplating a move in the next year but debating about where to move..We have 2 options:

1) Move to San Clemente - Yes, it's further south, but we love San Clemente and likely can get something good for our $

2) Move further north, albeit not entirely certain where..From a commutting standpoint, it would make sense to be somewhere North East. Maybe Fullerton, Orange?? Other ideas

Our hearts would be with #1 but just not certain if the extra 15 minutes added to our commute would put us over the top.

I looking forward to input/insight..

Thanks.

My husband's commute is 1 hour with zero traffic..He goes against traffic so doesn't get into any

Mine is 1 hour 25 minutes or I can take the train (2 hours).

Wow! I commend you on being able to commute like that. I, on the other hand, would get too cranky if I am stuck in traffic for 20 min. The city of Brea might be a good location.

Hahaha! No vas. She wanted OC not LA.</blockquote>

I'd love to live in Pasadena, but I can't fade the commute to OC.

Given she works in Burbank and he works in absolutely the pit of Hell........Yorba Linda maybe?

Funny you should use the word "hell" and Yorba Linda. It's hot as hell there. Hahaha!

It's hot everywhere in North County in the summer and when the Santa Anas blow.

YL is pretty far from Hell (San Berdoo) but your point is well taken.

That's a very good question...I guess it comes down to how close you want to live by the beach or do you want to cut down you commuting times. Certain parts of Fullerton/Brea are nice (north of Chapman). You could also look at Diamond Bar/Walnut as well if you were open to moving outside of the OC. Have you considered Huntington Beach or Seal Beach (especially if you like that smaller beach town type of environment)? I would think that moving further South to San Clemente would had more than 15 minutes each way to the both of your commutes.

If you don't mind inland, I would pick Fullerton. Not only are the homes/schools good, but the train station is right there so you could commute to both places via train (traffic is only going to get worse by car over the years, of course).

If you want to stay near the ocean, I would pick something close to a freeway, like NPB, costa mesa, or maybe east LB.

By the train. Unless she's way off hours, anyplace north of the Y along the 405 isn't going to dent her commute and may make it worse and with the exception of the end of the 55, his will be worse.

Frankly, I'm still getting my head around south OC to San Berdoo in a hour. I do the Corona run now up the 55 and it's 30 minutes and I bail off the road before the morning traffic jam through Corona/Riverside. I've done the run to LAX along the southbay and it's a parking lot from 7AM to 9AM everyday. The 405 to 5 to Burbank jams on any of the options.

Frankly, straight up the 5 is probably fastest to Burbank.

Go for Clemente or stay in SOC, anything else and you'll just have the same or worse commute and not be where you want.

Are you leaving at 5am or commuting by ultralight?

I currently live in the Bixby Knolls area of Long Beach. I take the 710 tot he 5 to my school in Hollywood (Los Feliz area). The drive sucks no matter how you look at it, but it's easier than driving to the westside.

An hour with zero traffic. How long does it takes him if there is traffic from South OC to SB?

If I had the same commuting problem, I'd probably elect to live in Arcadia, Glendora, or Pasadena. Some parts of La Verne are quite nice as well. No beaches but at least you have the foothills.

If OC is a must, the Fullerton/Placentia/Yorba Linda area as it's still proximal to 5 and 91 and has easy train access...

Leaving at 530 a.m. and shooting straight up the 5 freeway to Burbank..Takes about 1 hour 15 minutes.

Commute to San Bernardino..Straight up the 241 to the 91..Going against traffic.

You and your husband's work locations and your home forms a huge equilateral triangle. Have you thought about reducing the triangle to an isosceles or a straight line ?

San Clemente is the cheapest RE coastal location and I can't think of other more affordable and scenic like San Clemente. Wilmington and Long Beach are both flat land and polluted. San Pedro may help your commute but also kills your husband's.
