I'm actually surprised no one is talking about this on here.

I just don't know how BP is going to make this right... the economic and environmental destruction has to be way beyond their means to fix and pay for.

I think BP along with the other oil giants have made billions of dollars in sales--record profits for them over the last several years. I believe they have plenty of reserves and insurance money to weather the cost of the clean up financially.

But the bigger risk for BP is political. Everyday that the oil is not plugged up they risk further angering constituents and government leaders. More anger usually means more investigations, more regulation, and penalties. In the long run, BP could lose due to canceled contracts and a total ban on off shore oil drilling in the US.

BP and the rest of us need to be very concerned about the Government demonization and scapegoating.

Frankly, the government is the one that was asleep at the switch not enforcing regulations they already have and the books and now screaming for more stringent regulations.  Uh, excuse me?  Isn't that like saying we need a 30 MPH limit on the freeways because the cops don't enforcing the 65MPH limit unless you're doing 90+?

The best one was on of Obama's admin members saying BP should be rsponsible to handing the claims of the people tha are getting laid off because of the Obama Administration pulling the plug on offshore drilling.

The government is behaving in a very scary manner.
