Before the point that I want to convey is lost in my rant, let me state that first.
If anybody is considering moving into an IAC complex, when you first go there they'll give you a form to fill out which asks something in the lines of "How did you find us?" Always put a referral to someone in the complex, if you don't have any friends in the complex, talk to someone standing around before you go in and put his name in the form. It's a $500 referral fee, and they have funny rules on how they pay it, which they will not tell you until it is time to pay the fee, and then you find out they have umpteen rules on how NOT to pay the referral.
ok, here I go...
If anyone have noticed my previous posts I'd asked around on this forum on recommendations to good apartment communities in Irvine, and I'd recieved sevaral suggestions. To make a long story short we visited several communities, talked to several friends, found out one of our friend's friend is at Santa Maria and finally decided to go with that.
We had not leased at Santa Maria on our first visit, it was probably a week or two after the first vist, after we had seen several communities that we went in to lease at Santa Maria. The main reason for picking Santa Maria was because we knew two families there one of whom had a kid same age as ours.So while we were filling out the application form my husband told the leasing person we have a friend here, so I'm putting his name as a referral. His reply was "Good! that means he will get a $500 referral fee." Then I had jokingly asked him if I put his name too, will he get 1000? Then he replied No, it doesn't work that way. But if you lease two apartments he will get that And I ask him, then how come you charge two application fees for one apartment. He says that's a good logic.
ok, we move in, our friend gets in touch with the office on referral fee, and he calls back to tell us the office said there is no referral fee!!My husband calls the office to check on this, and they reply probably the application is still being processed. Later we recieve a long message from the office saying, when we first came in we had put "website" as how we found them and even on my application I'd put website and we had used an internet only coupon for 250 discount. Now the only way they can pay the referral is we reimburse the 250!!!!
Since I remember the whole conversation we had while leasing, I call up the office and ask for the leasing consultant. The lady replies he is off today, I'm the manager. She was the person who had left the message and goes on to explain why they cannot pay the referral fee. Some of the reasons being I'd gone to Solana and put a holding deposit there. Well, I did that, but why should it matter, I leased here because this guy told me this is a good place.Isn't that what a referral is???
No, it doesn't work that way etc etc. I ask for her manager and she says I'm the manager. Well that's fine, isn't there someone whom you reports to or something. No, you can call this person at customer relations and she is going to say exactly the same thing. Does IAC employ clones??
I've never had such a dumb conversation before. She tells me I used an internet only coupon which means I cannot give a referral. I tell her, this person told me this is a good community, then I went and checked on the internet to see if I could get any good deals and I found this coupon.Am I not supposed to do that. No you are not!!!! What the heck, I'm speechless. She tells me we pay referrals to lots of people, and I tell her I have no idea about that, what I know is you are not giving me. And I was not informed they will not pay a referral if I use this coupon. She tells me since I dont trust her and I am judging her etc.... I can speak to the customer relations. Ok, thank you I take the number down. She informs me the leasing consultant whom I spoke with (who was a very friendly guy I must say) will be on Friday so I can speak with him. But in between when I had told her the conversation I had with this guy, she says he is not the person to decide on this. So I have no idea what help it is going to be to talk to him. Any way I'll do that.
And I called up the Customer relations and left a message, I hope they have people there who understands what CUSTOMER RELATIONS means.
