Gated community in Northpark Square

Why is there a gated community on Montellena in Northpark Square?  What is so exquisite about that neighborhood?

Gates are to keep the criminals out, like they do in Costa Mesa.

Northpark has a gate but Northpark Square only has a small section gated.  The rest of the community (with close to million dollar SFRs) are not.

The gated community in NPSquare was originally meant to be an adult community. They would only sell it to the principals if they were above a certain age but later removed that restriction. I don't really know the story behind why they removed it but I remember when NPSquare opened, we did not look at those models because of the age requirement. We were then surprised when we found out someone we knew bought there maybe a year later.
