Recently came across some deals on furnace filters here:

And learned a few things on these filters.  I didn't know the main use of these filters is to protect your HVAC system and not to filter 'your' air.  And also that if you buy the most expensive filter, it can put a strain on your HVAC system, since it will be pulling harder to return the air.  Interesting.

In my older home (but newer build condo), I change the filters regularly and use the blue or red 3M filtrete filters.  Always dirty and every pleat is covered with dust whenever I switch 'em out.  In my current house (older home), I change my filters every 6 months, yet I still don't see any buildup of dust like my prior home.  The filters I use now are the cheaper home depot ones, as 3M does not make (or they don't stock it) a 18x30x1.  Not sure if its my HVAC, the cheaper filters, or maybe I have cleaner air now?  I believe the 3M's are electrostatic, while the cheaper ones at Home Depot are not.

It's because the cheaper ones aren't filtering as well so you don't see the build up.

Hehe.

(have no idea if that's true or not)
