Friday the 13th was very lucky for me!!!!

NEW -> Contingent Buyer Assistance Program
Well, after numerous phone calls, meetings, and discussions with search/consulting firms it looks like I got something to stick today. A consulting company who does work for various industries (including for financial service companies) wants me to start on a project at a bank up in Brea next week if my background check and fingerprints are OK. I'll be working as an independent contractor and my billing rate will be slightly more than I was making per hour at my full-time banking job. I am so EXCITED!!! I'm just glad I'll be getting back to work.

Btw, what's the best route to take from Irvine (Quail Hill) to Brea (57/Lambert)? 5 North to the 57 North? or 5 to 55 to 91 to 57? I need to get there at 8am and I will be leaving at 5pm.

N5 to the 57 will be your best bet. Avoid the 91 at all costs.</blockquote>
Well if the good luck continues through tomorrow with my date, I should be able to check that box too. haha

Btw No_Vas, what kind of commute time can I expect to have leaving at around 7am-7:15am from Irvine to Brea and leaving Brea for Irvine at 5pm?

Thanks guys, it's just nice to know that my skills and experience are still valuable even in this market and were able to land me a good paying gig. I guess the advice I can pass along to anyone who has been laid-off recently is to keep pounding the pavement and stay positive because being persistent pays off.

Congratulations trojanman,

I was hoping to hear that you were going to be blackvault's first hire at his new position, and that you two would continue to bring us daytrading details.

Good luck.

Thanks. I've been doing some day trading, but I've been keeping busy driving around meeting with people (search firms, network, friends, clients, etc). I definitely have to post up my trades more often although I dont trade the BIG $$$ that BVs trades, I'm just a single celled organism in the ocean on day trading. Believe me though, I'll be the first one to apply for a job with BV's future hedge/investment fund. But I am still interested in that one venture that I spoke to Graph about and possibly getting my dad involved.

Now that I'm selling the Porsche and I'll be driving an automatic Accord to work traffic shouldn't be so bad. Bumper-to-bumper traffic + 6-speed + heavy race clutch = SUCKS!

Congrats Trojan!

And I took that route to school for 4 years of college (2 to Pomona, 2 to Fullerton) and by far the best route was taking Irvine Blvd. (slight detour around the 55 entrance) and get on the 5 freeway from 4th Street (same street as Irvine Blvd.) then take that to the 57. I usually always listened for traffic in the morning and if there was something bad (rare) I took the 55N to the 91W to the 57N. You are only on the 91 for about 1 1/2 miles so its not a bad alternate.

However, I just realized you are probably coming from the opposite side of Irvine from me. How hard is it to get to the 55 North from your side? I just remember the 5 North was terrible before the 55 so I always took Irvine Blvd. past the 55 into Santa Ana and got on there.

Oh and for the way home. I learned the fastest way was always 57 South, 91 East, 55 South to 5 South. The key is on the 91 East stay on the right so you can get on those offramps (I think one is Glassel or Kramer) where it gives you the option to get off but you can just stay on it and hook up with the 91 again. By the time you bypass that, you are only 1/2 a mile from the 55 and you are home free as it starts clearing up.

I know it doesnt seem like the fastest but I remember many times getting stuck in the overflow from the interchange at the 22 (when you go from the 57 to the 5) and then once again you get backed up in traffic on the 5 until you pass the 55. If you have any questions feel free to ask. I did these routes at many different times and hours and had alot of practice at it.

But the fact you live over on the other side of Irvine from me could change things.

Great input! I live off Sand Canyon/405 so my options to get to the 57 would be 1. 405 North to 55 North to 5 North (traffic usually starts around Jeffery/Culver at 8ish and thins out a bit once you pass Jamboree/MacArthur) OR 2. 133 North to 5 North to 57 North Which one would you choose? I need to be up in Brea by 8am so what time would I have to leave home to get there safely on time? How long would it take me to get back home if I leave Brea at 5pm?

Congrats!

but if you are leaving at 5pm, that gives you 15 hours to get there. you could walk.

Getting there is the tough part. Anyone have input on the 405 to the 55? I know the 55 North is pretty clear in the morning (the 55/5 interchange might be a little tough). If I had to guess, i'd say 133 to the 5 to 57. I know you'll hit some traffic around Jamboree/Tustin Ranch or Culver on bad days. Another option is take the 133 to Irvine Blvd. The only problem is you might hit alot of red lights and all the light in irvine are long if you hit them. Once you get past Jamboree, you will hit one or two red lights at worst.

Getting home I'd definetly take the route I said above and then hop on the 133.

Getting there, I'd give yourself a 45 minute cushion at least just to start. Once you find the good route you'll be able to make it in 35 or less but if theres an accident you are screwed.

Getting home, I'd say 35 minutes or so. I'd say I usually got home in 25 so add 10 for your location. I bet you'll be able to pull it off in like 20-25 on good days.

edit: oh yeah, just a warning, I'm assuming you'll be getting on at either Imperial Highway or Lambert going home Get as far LEFT as soon as you can. The traffic will seem crappy as you get past Cal State Fullerton. Its a mix of overflow of people getting on the 91 East and new traffic coming from Nutwood and Yorba Linda Blvd but the left lanes move way faster than the right ones in it. Don't worry about getting right for the the 91 West, as soon as you get past those people trying to get on the 91 East, its easy to get over in time for it.

Same for the way there, stay left so you can avoid all the college kids trying to get off at Nutwood/Yorba Linda Blvd etc.

so to sum up:

To start leave at 7:00 just to be safe, once you get a feel for it 7 15 will probably be okay even on days with traffic

Expect to be home at 5 45 at latest, around 5 30- 5 35 will probably be the average

I think I can easily manage that since it's 24 miles door to door. haha

Congrats on the job. That's great news!

I have to ask, though. Going from a Porsche to an Accord? Is there a story behind that? Seems like there were many other automatic sedans you could have gone to that would have been more comfortable for someone used to a fancy car. (Not that I think it's a bad move, not at all. It's definitely a two-thumbs-up for frugality choice, a choice that puts you in high regard in the IHB community.)

Thanks ISM. I get that question a lot. Back in the "good old days" I was making well into the 6 figures for a few years when I upgraded from an M3 to having having a nice "fun" car (Porsche that I drove on weekends and take out to the track) and a daily commuter (Honda Accord). I guess just like a lot of people I sipped on the koolaid and that I'd always make that kind of money without any interuptions. Well, life can sometimes humble you and now it has come time for me to cut back on all unnecessary expenditures and one the first thing to go is the "fun" car. I'm not a snob that needs a nice car, but rather I love fast cars and always loved the way 911 Porsches looked like. I'm more than happy with the Accord, even though I won't have the golddiggers flocking to me like with the Porsche. haha

[quote author="biscuitninja" date=1234603677]Congradulations... hopefully they won't find out about the brothell you used to run...

Hopefully that FBI background check comes back clean of that little matter. Oh how I miss the Bunny Ranch II. haha
