Two of my sprinkler heads blew and now I have a small fountain in both my front and back yard.  I was planning on replacing my entire sprinkler system and now seems to be a good time.  My neighbor even emailed us that there is a fountain in our yard while we were on vacation, how embarrassing.  Anyone have good recommendations for yardwork, let me know..  more specifically irrigation systems, I already have a gardener but they quoted me $30 per sprinkler which I thought was a bit much.

Do you need to replace your entire system? If the other sprinklers are in good condition... just replace the blown ones.

As you can tell... I'm all about economical choices.

you and my wife think way too similar when it comes to labor or what you think things should cost and not in a good way man.

the above sprinkler is $6 (body and nozzle). The guy has to make a trip to home depot, get the sprinkler head/nozzle, maybe get some PVC pipe (not sure if that is broken or just the head). Time alone to go pick this up, round trip is say 30 minutes, that is if you know exactly what you need and what to get. probably closer to 45-60 minutes roundtrip from your house. lets say gas and time are $10 (and this not even worth the inconvenience), plus $7 (including tax) for each of your sprinkler heads, im at $24 bucks already.  So that leaves $36, or $18 to replace each head, he can do both in one hour. Do you really think all that is expensive for $60?

what do you think is reasonable to pay?

what do you think a handyman is going to charge you? they wont do it for less than $50-60 + materials

PS9 - i thought you had learned from the mover experience man.  One day im  going to pick you up and take you with me to go do some manual labor and then pay $8/hour for it.

A couple of sprinker heads is going to cost $1 (nozzle) to $10 (complete pop up head) each depending on the unit and about 30 minutes of your time to replace each, tops. If you have a gardener already they likely sheared off the heads as they mowed. Can they get it done? Otherwise it's a very easy (but dirty) fix that isn't as tough as it might seem.

Given the cost of the units themselves, you're paying the person fixing it about $25.00 per hour. I'll do it for $10. I'm sure others on the board will underbid that amount, going even lower if quality beer is served by the host.

Cmon SGIP - so you will go to home depot, buy the sprinklers, install it, all for $45?

I would have my gardener do it... it's like a built-in lifetime warranty (well... as long as you use him).

If it ever breaks again, he'll have to fix it for free due to guilt. :)

In my other house, the gardener actually included sprinkler fixing as part of the monthly... too bad he moved to Apple Valley.

No. Just the two heads because that's what has to be done before an entire re-work of the system. Most sprinker re-works take a week plus to get done. The replacement of the heads is a simple job that anyone can do. Unless you're made of money paying someone to replace just the two nozzles is extravagant.

yeah if PS9 was going to go buy the heads and just have the gardener install them then i agree, $60 is very high. but because it $60 i was assuming PS9 was not providing anything.  I cant imagine a gardener quoting $60 to just replace to heads, unless its not as simple as just replacing the two heads.
