As I am typing, one of my favorite, if not my favorite house in my neighborhood is engulfed in flames. Anyone driving on the 5 freeway through North Santa Ana about 6pm would have seen it. The house was built somewhere around 1905 and it is the only one you can actually see from the freeway in our neighborhood. Fortunately it is on the opposite side of the neighborhood from me but it is near some people we know. I'm just hoping they can contain it to one house but right now, it doesn't look good.

My guess right now is electrical. My cousin is an electrician and does a lot of work in nearby Floral Park. There have been 3 electrical fires in the past 6 months. Old houses, all built around the same time and the electrical wiring seems to be going out at the same time. We just replaced the wiring in about 1/2 of our house a few weeks ago and there were some scary problems found.

The Register did an article today. The house is actually 130 years old. We drove by today and it looks like the upstairs was burned out pretty badly but the home is still standing. Apparently, the fire started in the chimney and was fed by a lot of antique furniture that was being stored in the garage. So sad.
