Just ordered my first Dyson product, the DC65 Animal upright vacuum.  Had about $50 in SYW points, got it for $281 delivered.  Additional 10% Discover card cashback and another $15 in future SYW points bring the final price to around $240.

We currently use an Oreck, but it's inconvenient with all the hair that gets wrapped up in the roller, spend more time cutting hair than vacuuming.

Thanks PS9 - pretty good deal.  Just ordered one as well.  It was no longer available for delivery so I have to pick it up in store.

Should've done store pickup, I think my order will get canceled, several reports in slickdeals already

Not yet.  Not available for pick up until around 11/20.  I checked my Sears account and it says it's "processing".  I checked my Discover card and already got my cashback and the transaction is "pending".  Hope this all means I will get it and the order won't be canceled.  This will be my 2nd Dyson product.  I have that cordless stick (which can be a bit wonky at times).  And I currently use a Miele which is great for hardwood but meh for carpets.  The one I have is one of their mid-range canisters.

Finally got my DC 65 Animal from Sears after about a month.  Man, is it heavy!  Gonna get a workout using this on the stairs.  Vacuumed my family room rug for about 5 minutes and can't believe the crap that got sucked up into the cyclone.  All vacuums should have transparent containers.

Vacuumed the whole house with the Dyson this past weekend.  It was a chore with that lumbering beast.  Suction was strong but maybe its because you can see the hairball tornado in the cylinder?  Allowing you to visualize the crap you suck up and dumping it out empowers you versus just throwing a bag away.  Who knows.  One annoying thing with the Dyson is that it gets a high pitch whistle about 10 seconds after you turn it on.

@bones
Did you notice that as well?  Just spent $300 on a giant whistle.  Not recommending Dyson for now.

In the long run, I think Dysons are overpriced.

We had ours repaired after a year of use and since then have just used regular cheapo vacuums (that are bagless and have that "tornado window").

No real difference... the one feature I like about our latest cheapie is the cord rewinds into the vacuum... that was always a chore I disliked.

You should try a Shark... probably same result for less money (haven't tried one but keep seeing commercials for them).

IHO.. I have a Shark.. works great.  It's been a few years too.  Definitely would not pay top dollar for a vacuum.

We have a dyson for the upstairs carpet. Works really well. It's one of their lighter versions. My wife didn't want anything heavy. Downstairs we have a cordless shark that also works very well for the downstairs bedroom and rugs in living room. Our old shark we had upstairs worked just as well as our current dyson. Will probably just stick with sharks in the future though.

No clue.  I don't vacuum - my house cleaner does.  He seems really happy with it (even commented on how he likes the Dyson better for carpets than my old vacuum).  But I've noticed that my carpets look "better" and feel "cleaner" but that could be psychological.  All in all, pretty happy with the sub $300 investment.  Definitely would not pay full price or even amazon price for it.

Like one of these?

Hoover
$70
Bagless (see the dirt)
Rewinds the cord

@paperboy:

Yep... got it at Target and paid $4 for a warranty (because the last one, a different brand, broke in 4 months... I could go back to the manufacturer but too much work than just taking it back to Target).

BTW:

There are advantages to using bagged vacuums... namely you don't have to change/clean/wash filters every 2 months like you do with the bagless.

I never get warranties on small appliances/products. Companies make a ridiculous amount of money on warranties. There is a high probable chance that you won't even use your warranty that you bought.

For $4... at the rate that vacuum gets used, I'll be getting a new one before the 2 years are up.

For a Dyson. They are usually good quality.

Your statement may be true, if you own a cleaning service and use it everyday.
