Does anyone have Direct TV moved homes?  Do they typically charge you?

I got a deal from best buy.  I signed up for a 2 year deal for the Choice Package.  First year was $38/month.  Second year it goes to $76/month.
When I was telling them that I was planning to move, the customer retention folks told me that as long as you have not had a move within 18 months, they do not charge to come out and install a new dish to the new home.  You just leave your old dish.
Today I called and they told me it was a free move.  I put in the request, later got an email for a $199 charge to have someone come install the dish.  I called back to dispute it and the rep told me that despite what they told me, there is no such 18 month rule.  It's like these guys make up their own rules as they go.  Talked to a supervisor who said it is a case-by-case basis.  Has anyone moved and gotten charged?

I'm thinking of going back to Cox or maybe ATT Uverse (if they have it in the area)  I'm sure they will be more expensive but at least you dont have issues of dish failure, and Direct TV trying to charge you everytime they have to send someone out to fix/move it.

ive moved with Direct TV before. they did not charge me. they used to even advertise it, that they would not charge when you moved.

Just tell them your new home doesn't have a way to install the dishes and switch. U-verse pays you up to $300 to keep them when you move.

Uverse isnt available in parts of irvine.  Uverse costs a lot more than both DirectTV and Dishnetwork.  I believe Cox is even cheaper than UVerse.  Direct TV has some faulty service though.  I have heard some bad experiences with their hardware failing on some occasions.

Cox quoted me double for the same package as U-verse.

paperboy, uverse services portola springs? I put in a Northpark address and OH address but it doesnt say that it services those areas of North Irvine.

I have moved with DirectTV service in tow about four years ago from Irvine to Laguna Niguel.  I did not get charged and I was being very picky on dish placement and routing of the cables so that it was not visible from the street and the cable was not visible running down the side of the house.

If you don't hear what you like from customer retention, call back and speak to another customer retention person.  Eventually you will get someone that either cares about customer experience or does not care enough to fight your request.  Using that method has gotten me some perks and free equipment that I should have had to pay for or was not available in my area.  I guess being a pain in the butt sometimes does work.....
