I'm really hungry right now and am craving cupcakes. What is your favorite local cupcake? My fave is CB's, which is based out of San Diego, but they make appearances at the OC Fair every year. Their cupcakes are customizable and much lighter and more airy than Sprinkles (although I like Sprinkles as well).

Having no cupcakes in my house, and being of weak will, I just finished up all the brownies that I baked on Monday. I feel gross now.

Sprinkles, absolutely! :D  I haven't found any that I like nearly as much.

I haven't had Casey's Cupcakes, but my wife bought 2 to try and said they were so greasy and awful that she threw them away after 2 bites.

Where's the nearest Sprinkles?

Casey's at Fashion Island is comparable to Sprinkles and just as pricey.

if you like cupcake you will love Macarons.

Lette Macarons on Beverly Dr And Charlesville in Beverly Hills
Lette Macarons on Larchmont near Hancock Park
Lette Macarons on Fair Oaks in Old Town Pasadena

I went to layercake in Irvine yesterday to pick up some Macaroons for the wife and I saw some cupcakes there.

The best seller was the red velvet... prices were pretty fair.

I don't really understand the macaroons (spelling?) thing.

They taste good... but they are so small for the price... and sometimes it feels like I'm eating nothing. I can probably put ten of those away whereas one cupcake would have the same effect.

Sprinkles is a bit  too sweet for my taste.  I'd vote for Bubba Sweets in Huntington Beach. The sea salt caramel cupcakes are the best. They have a $1 cupcake special on Wednesdays ($2 regular price). On the sale days they usually sell out and close early.

Drove by and noticed they?re doing the buildout for Casey's.
It won?t be long now.

finally had these in laguna beach recently.  they are good but i would rank them below Frostings (my wifes favorite) and sprinkles.  Its all about the bundt cakes for me now though.

Although I love sprinkles, my absolute favorite is the truffle dipped caramel cupcake at What a Dish/It's All About The Cake in Dana Point across the street from the harbor.  It is much lighter and less like a boat anchor like sprinkles can be.  It is expensive but when I have a cupcake craving, that is the first one that pops into my head.  I want one now.  Gaaaakk.
That place wins awards all the time for their very creative and detailed cakes (full size cakes).  It is incredible to see the amount of detail they put into the cakes when viewing them up close.

I have had Casey's in Laguna and it is Meh for me.  Nothing special in my opinion.

Is Frostings located off El Toro in Lake Forest?
We buy a lot of bundt cakes as well.
Just not a fan of the District, parking getting in and out.

Yep.

And the Jalapeno's there changed their name to Chile Fresca... same food... different owners (well... one of them I think).

We typically hit Lee?s and Frostings the cupcake shop.
Where?s the Jalapeno's located?
I really like their food and was disappointed, although not surprised to see their Woodbury location close.
Now we drive to the Taco Factory off Sand Canyon for Mexican food.
