Orange County is having it's first Cupcake Camp!

What exactly is Cupcake Camp? It is a gathering of cupcake lovers to share and eat cupcakes. It first started in San Francisco, but has been hosted in cities all around the world, including Buenos Aires, Montreal, Paris, Wellington, Bombay, and many cities in the USA.

Cupcake Camp OC takes place this Sunday, August 1 at the Atrium Hotel in Irvine (near the John Wayne airport) from 3p-6p. The event is free, but a donation of $10 will be greatly accepted. The donations will be given to El Pozo, an organization that works toward ending human trafficking and slavery in Mexico.

There will be a cupcake competition for professionals and amateurs. Registration is closed for entering cupcakes in the competition, but eaters are still needed. All of your favorite Orange County cupcakes will be there and someone needs to eat them! What could be better than spending an afternoon eating cupcakes?

Come join us for a sugar rush this Sunday. Hope to see you there!

More info available on Just Spotted.

My wife is on a cupcake baking binge--this event will definitely peak her interest and increase my waistline.  :)

Great cause, fun time, but my daughter has a severe peanut allergy. Can't trust these delectibles when the creators don't know what's inside of them. Perhaps I'll sneak over and have a dozen... for the kids, you know...

So I went to the OC Cupcake Camp. Lots of vendors to choose from. The only problem was the crowd factor--they probably needed a bigger ballroom. I enjoyed eating the cupcakes with a beer at the poolside bar.  :)

My favorite cupcake was a breakfast cupcake with bacon bit sprinkles and butter/pancake syrup style cream on top. Very different.

Sounds like they had a great turn out.  I wanted to go but couldn't get away.

That's an interesting combo...lol.  How many cupcakes did you end up eating?

Dang... missed it.

That cupcake sounds interesting... an untapped market... meal cupcakes... kind of like empanadas from Portos except you can do like a cheeseburger cupcake, a pizza cupcake or a baked potato one.... hmmm.

There was a group of us who went--so I must have tasted about a dozen different cupcakes. I didn't eat them all--way too much sugar for me.

There was very good turnout. The crowd seemed pretty young (a lot of college age folks) and more women than men.

The nice part was it was all for a good cause--charity fundraiser against human trafficking.http://cupcakecampoc.wordpress.com/cause/

After tasting multiple sweet cupcakes, having a more savory version seemed a great idea to me.
