Counter height dining, nook tables

Haven't shopped for furniture in awhile and surprised to see a lot of counter/bar height eating tables.  Is this a trend?  With a little one, I don't see the practicality of a counter height, plus to me it would be less comfortable.  Unless you're a family of 7 footers, I don't see the appeal of this.  Saw a bunch at living spaces and easy life.  Looking to get a cozy nook table with a bench for my little one.

Thinking about getting this set...

I like how the butterfly is built-in (don't you love it on turkey day.."Where's that damn table extension thingy!").  Color is ok, mango wood (a green sustainable product?), and of course the bench makes it easier for my little one to climb aboard (which she did on the display unit at the store).  Good for casual, everyday dining in our little nook..

That's a good set if it can fit in your nook. We can only fit a round or square table in ours (we prefer round so you can shift the seating a bit).

Do they have something like that at Living Spaces?
