10. Washington D.C.

P.S. How they obtained this info:

"The latest data comes from iOnRoad, the android and iPhone app that aims to improve driving in real time. Using computer algorithms and smartphone cameras, it detects cars in front of your vehicle, alerting you when you are in danger from a collision or sideswipe.

With data collected from drivers in one million downloads, iOnRoad has come up with a list of the worst cities to drive in."

The two 99 Ranch Market parking lots are the epicenters of Irvine's bad driving... go there at your own risk (especially on weekends)

I think we've covered this in another thread somewhere, but this is how Irvine made the list:
The Orange County metroplex has a low average driving speed which means lots of traffic. But that hasn't hurt the growth in the number of attorneys who identify themselves as speeding/traffic lawyers. Good reason. The National Speed Trap Exchange identifies 66 speed traps in Irvine.
So slow traffic from all the older FCBs... and speed traps.

Never head north on Culver from 5pm to 6:30pm... you'll be stuck for 2 or 3 light cycles between each block.

I always come within an inch of my life at:
Arbor Village shopping center @ Walnut & Jeffrey
&
Right in front of the Northwood Town shopping center. The stretch of Irvine Blvd. between Yale & the mobile home park, especially heading SE as cars pull in & out of the center with no warning.

Slam their brakes, failure to signal, cut you off...

Totally anecdotal but - a lady on the streets of Irvine (who could be an identical twin of the woman pictured) told me she's finally passed her driving test... after failing 6 TIMES. 7th time was the charm. I don't understand.

A lady in a minivan almost ran over R2 and me while crossing.. hardly 6" between the van and us. We barely make it out of the complex every time we are there :-)
Weirdest of all, saw this guy with a truck (not the semi.. but the moving truck) decided to change 3 lanes and move to the left only lane, all within 500' of the signal. Glad he missed that car in the left lane..

There is a car that comes to drop off kid at the curb side- dent on the side, dent at the bumper, dent at the hood and dent near the license plate.. I am suspecting she hit a bollard. Husband says, when you see this car, just let her go- remember, she will ALWAYS have the right of way :)

I blame a lot of this on the bad signals...I don't understand the inability to sync up lights, especially when the speed limits are 50 mph or more.

I always love the sudden yellow/red because one car pulled up on a side street.  There is no reason why the major streets like Culver and Jeffrey should defer to side streets...if you are stuck in it...too bad.  Just make a right turn.

When there is no traffic... going north on Culver is awesome (I do every week on Saturday mornings)... all green.

When there is traffic... there is no light syncing in the world that can handle the volume of cars on the street at that time.

We joke about Asians being bad drivers, but whenever I go to China or Taiwan, I don't think anyone from the US would be able to drive there.  I had to drive in Taipei once, and it's like driving in LAX on Christmas eve.  In China, whenever I get in a taxi, I always think the taxi drivers would be really good at video games, because they can weave and dodge obstacles like nobody's business.

Agree that there is a limit but there are seriously bad bottleneck, usually around freeway exits.  The exits signals are not under Irvine control but the lights before and after them should be and are usually handled poorly.

Irvine worse than Los Angeles? Really?

I live and work in Irvine and think the traffic is great. Of course my commute is all on city roads that have very light traffic loads. If I commuted on the I-5 or I-405 I'd think differently.

It is neither the quality of the roads, signalization, or cars. The survey is a politically correct way to point to the entire city without pinpointing the drivers.
