Cloning gate code

I'm having trouble cloning the community gate code onto my universal clicker.  I borrowed by neighbors original gate clicker and was able to clone it onto my cars homelink but no luck with the standalone clicker.  These are the universal clicker you can pick up at Lowes, the amazon link is here,

I know the clicker works cuz I already cloned my garage to one of the buttons, but the gate code is driving me batty.  I need a separate clicker not attached to my cars homelink in case of emergencies/relatives.  Any troubleshooting feedback will be appreciated, and yes my HOA is not being helpful.
 
not the dip switch style, wish it was, that would've been easy....thanks for the manual, but i got a copy with the purchase.. not the most reader friendly when it comes to community gates. 
 
I have a few of these and they're not completely universal, so it may be just that your gate opener is not compatible.  I know they're not compatible with the opener Irvine Pacific installed in my house.
