We just bought a new home and are looking to hire someone to do a thorough cleaning of the place (house cleaning and carpet cleaning). Does anyone have any recommendations on individuals or companies that they've used? I've looked through a ton of websites, but figure that word of mouth is definitely the way to go. How does one even pick the best company just based on their website? There are so many services and price ranges!!! It's all so confusing. Help?? :)

I don't know about good ones. But I am not happy with Stanley Steamers - I think that's the name. The guy did a bad job. He left a big black stain by the stairs. I didn't notice it until the carpet was dry and he was long gone.

wow, seems like everyone has a maid, or cleaning service...

the other moms were asking my wife the other day at church; so, who cleans your house?

Um,, my husband!

I don't have the name of a specific local company, but may I suggest you find a carpet cleaner that uses the Argosheen method? I highly recommend this over saturating the carpet with water such as a steam cleaner. I have a lot of experience with this method and would not consider using anything else. (I do know one in Chino Hills that may travel if there isn't one closer.) This isn't the easiest to read but here's a page which explains a bit about Argosheen. This is the method they use in hospitals and on airplanes and such. It does a great job, is low moisture. Last time I had it done it was 27 cents per sqft. - very affordable.

What city is your home in? It would be hard to provide local recommendations if we don't know that.

try this guy:

My mom owns her own housekeeping business. She doesn't do carpet cleaning other than vacuuming, but everything will be cleaned. haha

I can vouch for Trojans mom. She started cleaning our place about a month ago. She does a very good job and her price is very reasonable.

Glad that it worked out for you guys. But it was not fun growing up with her, she is an absolute cleaning machine and super anal about it being very clean. I remember every other Saturday would be "clean the house" afternoon (it was like a cleaning hurricane rolling through) and I didn't know what dust was until I moved out to the college dorms. haha

I'd bet that my mom could run circles around your cleaning skills.

I just left a voice mail for my Argosheen guy asking if he has a referral for this area or if it's in his service area so when he calls, I will post a.s.a.p.

SC, I want so badly to hire your mom to clean our apartment. Hubby is the only thing getting in the way of making that happen. I thought about hiring her in secret and taking the credit myself but surely I'll be found out.

But there is a way for him not to find out...here's how. Take a lunch off and meet my mom at your place so she can give you an estimate. If it's good to go, give her a key and tell her what days/times you want her over so that way she's not there when your husband comes home (hide the check or cash for her in some secret location before you head out to work the day she comes over). WAH-LA...you can claim the credit for the place being spotless. haha If that doesn't work, you can always convince him after you buy your place because it'll much bigger than your current place and take more time to clean (taking that time away that you'd spend with him and the kids).

Ok, munchiee --

I talked to the owner. He says there is nobody in Irvine who does this method that he knows so he will service this area. (Lucky is the person who can even get Argosheen service for a residence, period.) He says if you call him and give him your carpeted square footage, he can give you a quote over the phone - probably the easiest way to do it. He will zip down the 241 and be there in no time.

Good job on convincing the hubby. I told you, where there's a will there is a way. haha My mom will give you a call this evening.

I'm not too proud of means, though. I kind of threaten financial divorce when I told him my paychecks would be redirected to a separate bank account. But he kind of deserved it as I do like 95% of cleaning. Plus, I was sent over the edge last weekend as I cleaned our place for 5 hours while he and the kids were out having fun!

Anyways, I'm like over the moon it is finally happening

You gotta do whatcha gotta do. haha You'll never guess it's my mom when you hear or see her...she's very petite and looks like she's Italian/Spanish and has a heavy European accent. Don't let her size fool you because she is one tough cookie.

Well, just my luck! Today I learned I'm being furloughed two days a week. I had to cancel on your mom. :( Funny thing is all I could think about as my boss told me of the cuts was how disappointed I was about giving up the cleaning services I'd fought so hard for. Big Sigh..... Well, I guess I'll have more time to clean. Lucky me {insert sarcastic tone}.

Oh man, I'm sorry to hear about that. My mom totally understands so don't worry about it. Were there other people in your company that also got furloughed? She's lost a handful of good clients during the past year to the horrible job market.
