Charities that you like that need donations?

In the name of spring cleaning and tax season, I need help finding a worthy charity to donate stuff and time to. Anyone have any pet charities that they are involved with that need donations?

I've already donated our used business clothing to Working Wardrobes, and have donated miscellaneous household goods to Goodwill, but wondering if there are any other organizations that are also in need of particular items.

For example, I have a lot of baby/kid's clothing/gear that are new with tags or gently used, so I'd prefer donating those items to an organization that serves women with children.

But all suggestions are welcome! Always nice to find a new ways to benefit the community.

I think the Orangewood Foundation may take new kids clothes. See here.

If you have furniture, the Society of St. Vincent de Paul will take it. Because of that, I send them everything. Also, they will schedule a pick up at your home.

For kids' stuff, although it is not a charity, you might find Zwaggle interesting.

For kids stuff, I would try "Mary's Shelter" in Orange. They take in pregnant teens, provide medical care and a place to live. Teach parenting skills and computer skills so that they can find employment to support their child and themselves. There are many young girls with their children living there at any given time. Great charity.

On May 17th Habitat for Humanity of Orange County is hosting an inaugural motorcycle ride called The Blaze of Glory. This ride will be a 60 mile Poker Run benefiting our Homes for Heroes Development in San Juan Capistrano. We are excited for this event and excited for you to be involved. We will need volunteers to help out in a variety of ways from destination site set-up?s to silent auctions. We will need volunteers sporadically between the hours of 6:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. This is going to be an awesome day filled with motorcycles, food and music! If you are interested in volunteering please let me know ASAP (please respond with a general time interval you are available to work). Once I hear back from you I will send you an information packet that details your assignment and further instructions.

If you have general questions about volunteering or build time please contact Alli Campfield via email alli@habitatoc.org (please do not reply to this email with general questions as my inbox will soon be very, very full!)

If you are interested in participating in the Poker Ride please contact Jamie via email Jamie@habitatoc.org for more information or to purchase tickets.

I'm very proud of the work that my wife does, as the grantwriter for Orange County Community Housing Corporation.

Their mission statement:

OCCHC is a 501 (c) 3 non-profit organization whose mission is to transition extremely low income families towards greater self sufficiency low income families towards greater self sufficiency by assisting them with housing and education. Its founding in 1977 was based on the principle that our low-wage families deserve safe housing and safe neighborhoods so that their children would have the same education benefits as those from more affluent neighborhoods.

Their site is here. Be sure to check out the video regarding the Stepping Up and Tutor House programs. It's a great concept to help some of these families break the minimum wage barrier by putting computers inside their homes and sending an educational tutor to hold them accountable for getting better grades.

It makes a real difference for these kids and their families. Thanks so much.
