Car wash recommendations in Irvine or neighboring cities?

NEW -> Contingent Buyer Assistance Program
Can anyone recommend a good car wash facility within Irvine or neighboring city? We will be moving to an IAC apartment in April, so would appreciate suggestions on where you locals go to get your cars washed. Are there any self wash facilities where they only offer the water?

I like two places for full service washes:

1) Tustin Car Wash (Newport and Bryan?). It is also a 76 station.

They send coupons out and have a pretty good deal: $9.99 for full service wash, air freshener, and armor all-ing tires. They also have an early-bird special (Sun to Thurs. 8 to 10 a.m.) for that same service. The cleaners are pretty good. Fri. and Sat are an extra $2 and oversized vehicles are an extra $1.

2) Checkers: On Culver in the Ranch 99 market plaza

Excellent service and good work except they charge an arm and a leg (last time I went it was about $20+tip.)

Self-service.

There is one on Edinger next to the metrolinke station. Cannot remember what it is called but stay away from their full service wash.

Avoid Alfie's if you can. They charge $6 more for SUVs, and my car wash took over 45 minutes during lunch break. They refused to give refunds to the angry customers, even though they promised "15 minutes" when I dropped it off.

Try the car wash on Lake/Barranca, I forgot the name. They have a 7 minute $7 external wash only. They do a good job, and its very quick.

That's what I would hate in an aggressive HOA, no self car washing. Those self-service car washes will scratch the hell out of your car. I maintain my cars, both washing and basic maintenance. Saves a ton of money and I do a better job.

To the OP in South Coast Plaza in the Metro Pointe parking lot. It is in the parking structure on the bottom floor. Check it out.

Wash and Go (aka Main Street Car Wash) at the Harvard Place Auto Place at Main and Veneto. They always have coupons in the Val-pack --- but you can get an even better deal if you purchase in advance through their VIP program. IMO their best wash value is the luxury wash which is pretty close to a full detail. List price is something like $19.95, coupon price is $12.95 (or 13.95 weekends), but I always buy in advance at 5 for $50.

The guys working there do a fantastic job --- almost too good. They work on your car forever. Seriously, I budget 45 minutes for a wash there. But nice outdoor waiting area with big flat screen to keep you entertained.

check the money mailers and those other coupon mailers. there are always coupons in them for car washes.

I take mine to the Chevron station on Trabuco at Bake. They charge $2 less on Tues. and Weds. for car washes and you get points for every wash you do. I accumulate enough points to get a free wash once or twice a year.

If you are in the Fountain Valley area, try the car wash on Harbor south of Heil. Good, fast service and very reasonably priced. Weekdays are $5 only for external wash (large vehicles extra). Weekend prices go up to $8, I think.

Any one here has tried Checkered Flag car wash at corner of Jeffery and Alton? I am interested in their "works" detail for interior and exterior. Thanks!

We like Checkered flag - it's probably the best we've found in Irvine. They're thorough and relatively quick, considering they do a great job. It seems like there's always a ton of people working there so I've never had to wait very long. We haven't gotten the detailing service though - sorry.

Is this the carwash place at the bottom floor of the Edwards parking structure next to South Coast Plaza?

If so this is the best hand wash place in OC! He washes all highend cars (Benz Brabus, Porches, BMW Alpina and Rovers) and I highly recommend this guy. He's the only guy that I would allow to wash my cars and I'm very very picky. His name is Vic and here's his number 714 580 7146. I usually leave my car with him and then eat or watch a movie.

I went to Checkered car wash today. Very average. It was fast about 10 mins as they were not busy. they pay absolutely zero attention to details. I will probably only do their $9.99 exterior wash next time.

IHO's car wash service in front of his 3 car garages. You can get a fried turkey while you wait. If you have kids then bring them to the Astro Jump too. It you need detail service then to kill time you can step inside the 600 sf Casino where you will find NoVas the dealer for some poker games.

I use this one all the time but only get a regular wash to keep it clean (gotta go today actually)..then I wax it myself..

My wife said she would never go back there because she thinks they scratched her car, and come to think of it, mine had 3 long scratches on the side once but you never know whether it was done at the Carwash because you don't notice sometimes for a day or two then just assume it was done by them, kinda looks like someone was wearing a watch or had dropped the drying towel on the floor and picked up a rock? If they did scratch the car...who knows...

But on the whole, I've had good luck, they put a pit crew on the Car and are pretty fast...$14.95 for a reg wash.

Only $9.99? That's not bad!!

I used to go to Checkered Flag quite regularly a few years ago and I remember thinking they did a great job at that time. Back then I think the sign said '18 minutes from this point'. But it seems things may have changed there... I went a couple times in the last year and was also disappointed in regards to the lack of detail.

Do you guys tip the car wash people? If so, how much?

I used to go to that car wash but then I realized that I could do a better job vacuuming the car myself and I do a horrible job! If my car gets too filthy I just drive it though one on those automated washes at gas stations because I don't have an expensive paint job to worry about.
